They covered this and "White Lines" and released them both on a cover album.

Some folks just really really didn't know how to handle the 90s.

Don't know if it's racist. Just English popstars trying to repeat the formula of getting rich off of black people from America.

Make no mistake about it -- white artists performing songs originally performed by black artists is as racist as it gets.

Stopheles - 2010-01-19

Yeah, it's more of a disconnect than actual racism, hence the question mark and the perhaps-more-accurate "noblesse oblige" tag (which I hope gets activated soon).

I'll let you know what I think after I find out what that means.

This was part of a whole album (Thank You) of covers; the intent of the album was to acknowledge artists that Duran Duran considered influential. Thank you was poorly received by critics, who were especially hard on their cover of Watching the Detectives. The covered artists in general liked the album, most feeling flattered by a comparatively big-name band doing an all-tribute disk. Notably not flattered was Jim Morrison because he was dead.

Not really my favorite Duran Duran album, nor is this my favorite song from it.

I was hoping this would be them when they were really old singing about Sept. 11th in a vain attempt at regaining relevance. Oh well.

No matter how many different angles the operators holds the camera, they just can't make the people in the audience look enthused to there.
