I don't think that was the sound guy's doing. It seems more like the studio's mikes have a volume and/or frequency failsafe, and he just let out a shriek that made his mic kill itself (unfortunately temporarily).
When the clip started, I thought "this should be a short & sweet clip with the first eight seconds.", because I had no idea what it would lead to.
This is it. The moment he's been waiting for his entire career. The moment he's more than a glorified liberal arts grad. This is the moment he is truly a meteorologist... the moment he has been dreaming of all his life... today, he is a meteorologist. Tomorrow he returns to anonymity.
But the sweet, glorious, eternal today is all he has.
