I really, really like Noah Baumbach's first film (Kicking and Screaming, and not the Will Ferrell one), but it's all been downhill since then for him.

Oh shit, gang, Ben Stiller is all bummed out because Generation X is hitting 40 and it turns out generic cynicism doesn't actually pay one's rent.

divinitycycle - 2010-02-11

The trailer makes me want to not ever watch this movie. Isn't that the opposite of what the trailer is supposed to do?

mon666ster - 2010-02-12

I would actually hate to watch this movie. I'm not just not interested. I would hate to watch it.

Syd Midnight - 2010-02-11

An essential part of Gen X was hating Baby Boomers going through their retarded coming-of-middle-age drama, and Ben Stiller is no Alan Alda. Remember, these were the best moments in the film.

Konversekid - 2010-02-11

A movie about how rad it is to do nothing. < A movie about nothing.

Syd Midnight - 2010-02-12

Gen X set the bar kinda high for films about doing nothing in particular. If my graying haired mid life crisis movie is going to be less interesting than "Slacker", no thanks.

BTW a hipster would have gotten beat up for listening to music like that in 1992.

BHWW - 2010-02-11

I suppose it's a change from his usual sort of film where he plays an easily flustered and frustrated, fussy uptight guy who ends up getting whacked in the head or slammed in the balls in a series of zany hijinks. Not neccessarily a change for the better, of course.

Yeah man, FUCK STARBUCKS! People don't go after Starbucks enough. Your time in the sun is OVER!

BrianAT - 2010-02-11

I hate hipsters because I refuse to be specific about the things I dislike. I also forget the limitations and inherent inaccuracies of movie marketing when it furthers my cause of hipster hate.

Noah Baumbach hasn't made anything for non-hipsters since that movie about post-grad hipsters doing nothing and wearing blazers.

Hipsters, man. Am I right?

FABIO - 2010-02-12

There is no way this guy DOESN'T own at least two pairs of Elvis Costello glasses.

Jeff Fries - 2010-02-12

Do you have a problem with Noah Baumbauch (removes cufflinks)

StanleyPain - 2010-02-12

WAIT WAIT...YELLOW FLAG. TIME OUT. CALLING FOUL.
Ben Stiller, when he was actually hipster-ish age, was already in some dumbshit attempt at "Generation defining" crap when he did Reality Bites (OMG DANCING IN A CONVENIENCE STORE IS SO RANDOM!! You can't do that shit twice in a lifetime, especially when you're more than 10 years older. You don't belong here, Stiller, and YOU KNOW IT!!!!
That said, the movie looks like the usual 'indie' shit. I was about to make a comment about the undoubtedly hip and edgy and "indie" soundtrack and then remembered I heard that a guy from LCD Soundsystem was doing it thus proving me absolutely correct.

Testicles of Doom - 2010-02-12

Man... Reality Bites is 16 years old.

It sucked then and I'm sure it sucks now.

Jeff Fries - 2010-02-12

Gen X was a mistake, soooorry

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-02-12

This and Post Grad need to get together and give each other drunk high fives and then go to the outdoor ceramics boutique together.

memedumpster - 2010-02-12

If only there was a way to somehow make him a pregnant teenage girl, this could fail to appeal to all ages simultaneously. Someone should make an honest movie about why getting older is awesome, because you get to destroy the world out from under a younger, powerless, generation right in front of their doomed little faces.
