Oh, the many times Ive graded a stack of essays and wanted to stamp that on most of them, though my students are quite a bit older. It would be a little too Randian, in my opinion.

The kids does kinda looks like a loser, though.

Aelric - 2010-03-14

Damn, F- for being a loser on grammar myself.

egglab - 2010-03-14

-20% for being a LOSER

RocketBlender - 2010-03-14

I don't know, calling them a loser for no reason or to relate to the other kids seem a bit too much, especially if he's actually taking off points.

I'm not against the idea of outright insulting the kids who score poorly and don't try, though. Some of them could use a stronger message.

Aelric - 2010-03-14

That is what I mean. While on one hand I should perhaps be more patient with ESL, I also teach kids who have had mandatory ESL classes for nearly 10 years by the time I see them, so when they can't connect a noun to a adjective after that much time, my true and honest opinion is that they are idiots and don't deserve much of my time. Especially considering I'm nearly fluent in their language after only 2 years.

Sigh. And the icing on the cake is that the good students are a bunch of annoying Tracy Glicks. I got to get into grad school so I can teach at university.

sosage - 2010-03-14

Did anyone really take public school K-12 half-assed seriously? It was a 13 year day care until you were old enough to dig ditches or go to college. I'm not entirely sure how some people couldn't make it to graduating high school when the pre-req for a C was "just show up".

Five for the teacher being a part of a shitty system and being sub-human by taking it out on a little girl's self esteem.

Aelric - 2010-03-14

In Korea, where I'm at, you you don't test well in middle school, they ship you to a vocation high school and no college will ever accept you with a degree from one of those, so it's a tad different. You try joining in the losing battle giving kids a half way decent education and see how long it is before you become a cynic. I don't, in the end, condone this dudes action but I can't say I don't occasionally think the same damn thing when I see a class of 40 with 35 getting F's. Stupid modern kids what with their rap music and their makeout parties and grrrr, lawn, get of it!

sosage - 2010-03-14

Wait. Korea? Aren't you allowed to beat the students? I'm talking about the shitty American system.

Goethe and ernie - 2010-03-15

The temptation to mark them down because they're dunces. EFL solidarity.

Syd Midnight - 2010-03-15

American kids get sent from Middle School to vocational school too, but only if they're losers.

MongoMcMichael - 2010-03-15

I'm kinda with Aelric on this one. The kids in my Bulgarian ESL classes actually enjoy it when I'm a little off-the-cuff and insulting with them, particularly since it stands in stark contrast with the stodgy ex-Communist teachers still inside the system. Where the teacher really failed, however, was for attaching the 'loser' epithet to a negative grade. When you attach bad grades to a paper, you need to cite reasons why you're giving them a bad grade, especially since the little shits always run to their class teacher and accuse you of playing favorites.

That said, I have written 'A for AWESOMENESS' on a few creative writing assignments, wherein the students obviously spent a lot of time and effort to make the story entertaining (e.g. a story about Santa Claus getting involved in a kung-fu fight with post-apocalyptic zombies).

takewithfood - 2010-03-14

You live in a place called "Buncombe County"; you are all losers by default.

garcet71283 - 2010-03-14

You live in North Carolina, you are a loser by default.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-03-15

It sounded like Bumkin County. Did anyone else hear that?

Gmork - 2014-03-14

Planet earth, losers, etc

Sacks5thAvenButt - 2010-03-14

this is his way of flirting with her, much like the ways i used to punch my crush on the arm in the 1st grade

pastorofmuppets - 2010-03-14

God that sucks if that's true.

EyeViolence - 2010-03-14

Man, if a teacher wrote that on one of my assignments in sixth grade I would probably cry.

garcet71283 - 2010-03-14

I did, but the school-board didn't think you could handle the stress.

BIlly Mays Here - 2010-03-14

...And ignroant pigfuckers will still cling to their "Dem schools are all about SELF-ESTEEM and CODDLING and BEING NICE and POLICTICAL CORRECTNESS!" strawmen.

delicatessen - 2010-03-14

but when the kids get As does he write "winner"

klingerbgoode - 2010-03-14

REXXX ROLAND

Sudan no1 - 2010-03-14

That kid got REX ROLLAN'D, amirite

hentaiwolf - 2010-03-14

I had a teacher who had a "gotcha!" stamp that he would use whenever someone got an F on a test. But he had to stop using it because a parent complained.

Sacks5thAvenButt - 2010-03-14

lolol now i wanna become a teacher for the sole fact that i can insult kids with stamps.

BIlly Mays Here - 2010-03-14

lolol kill yourself

garcet71283 - 2010-03-14

If I had more stars, I would give them to Sacks5thAvenButt

1394 - 2010-03-15

Here, take these

Sacks5thAvenButt - 2010-03-15

if your stars will lead me to the "be a teacher" line, i will gladly accept them

phalsebob - 2010-03-14

Saying someone has a "Controversial style" is PC talk for saying he is an asshole. I mean this in a general sense, and not just in this case specifically.

FeeFiFoFoTheFifeFifeBrown - 2010-03-14

Just for your edification, using the term "PC" and its derivatives in anything less than disdainful quotation marks is basically confessing that you're an abnormally tall pile of shit that walks like a man.

phalsebob - 2010-03-15

Yes sir.

gmol - 2010-03-14

I hate to be Gattobot, but after I read his book, part of me that wants to tag everyone of these videos and stories with John Gatto so we can keep track of the insanity that is schooling.

Give the man some money to make a documentary.

Syd Midnight - 2010-03-15

I'm in favor of closing every institution in which people sometimes act like assholes to each other

BorrowedSolution - 2010-03-15

I don't think Gatto ever recommended closing down all the schools. The main thrust of his argument is that no person, big or small, should be forced to 'learn' in a school environment, since anybody being forced to do something invariably learns how to cope with the situation, instead of actually benefiting from the material. So basically, all of the vaunted "smart" people in the class just lucked out and have a brain that stores a bunch of information and recall it easily, whereas the "losers" have a harder time of it, and find other ways of coping (ie. giving up because fuck you guys for making me into a monkey-puppet). John Holt also wrote a couple of good books on the subject; How Children Fail and How Children Learn. There's nothing wrong with an education per se, it's just the whole "Do it or we'll fucking ruin you." mindset that goes along with it that does the damage. I know, right? Crazy idea, that we shouldn't enslave children to meet our own agendas. THAT'S NUTS. And again: not saying education should be illegal, it just shouldn't be compulsory.

magnesium - 2010-03-14

On the one hand, it shouldn't be a teacher's job to sugar coat your fails, but how are personal insults and throwing someone's pencil box necessary? I love grade school teachers who think that they're "relating" to their students by being bullies. That's code for "sad old douche who thinks he's friends with popular sixth graders".

rustedmutt - 2010-03-14

Shit like this really fucks with a little kid. That teacher should be booted out on the goddamn street and sodomized by rabid coyotes.

Five trillion stars for utter evil.

TheOtherCapnS - 2010-03-14

You can't really rush to the defense of this kid unless you've read the paper. I mean, by all accounts it could be a total loser paper. The way this kid's mother speaks, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case...

oogaBooga - 2010-03-14

Jesus christ, do you really need to pick on a little girl? Usually the boys are better at being little shits, try picking on a bully.

Camonk - 2010-03-14

Girls don't fight back, moron!

Frank Rizzo - 2010-03-14

"they cant all be zingers"

CapnJesusHood - 2010-03-14

Dude's just trying to make sure the girl doesn't grow up to be dumb white trash like her mom. Rex Rolland: An American Hero.

glendower - 2010-03-14

This guy is pretty much the best teacher ever.

twinkieafternoon - 2010-03-14

I'm the cool teacher, man! I use the hippest terms from only the most mainstream MTV channels to call my students names that they can relate to, so they know I'm just joshin'. It's cool, because I need them to feel hip, and they need me for whatever it is I offer!

They should write on his pink slip "-20% of his projected life earnings for being a LOSER." I bet he complains if they do.

Syd Midnight - 2010-03-15

Dock his paycheck for being a square

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-03-15

But with that woman as her mother, how could she *possibly* be a loser?

5 stars because for all we know, this little girl could be the biggest pain in the ass in the world, and the guy could have been letting off steam. If she's acting up in class, it's not like he can write "suck it, you little bitch".

Or he's just a tremendous asshole and not getting paid enough. Either way, bitterness wins!

bopeton - 2010-03-15

Yeah but... is she a loser?

Braze - 2010-03-15

I paused to try to see the paper and all I can make out is the giant word ISLAM

Now I am really curious about this!

chumbucket - 2010-03-15

momma dressed for the tee-vee

Sacks5thAvenButt - 2010-03-15

she washes herself with a ra-yag awn uh sti-yeck.
