Matthew Barney Presents: Donkey Kong.

Points for boobies and wacky hats. I love me some boobies and wacky hats.

To be more serious-
Cremaster as a whole series is pretty uneven- It has it's great moments, and some groaners -if I would criticize anything, he's a terrible film editor. That said, I'm not unhappy it exists.

I saw the Guggenheim show, and the set pieces from the films are, in many ways, BETTER as just sculptures than they are as set-pieces for the film (the bar in particular).

This segment is so clearly modeled after the general structure of video games - he's gotta make progress, solve a puzzle, fight/evade a boss, musical interlude between levels and there's Richard Serra as Donkey Kong pitchin' melted vaseline down the ramps...

and I really do like boobies and wacky hats.

Not a true Scotsman.

Worst superhero ever.

StanleyPain - 2010-03-30

I'm sorry, but this was horrible. I can't believe how many people hyped up this Cremaster thing to me and when I finally saw it I felt so fucking duped. Absolutely terrible.

BUT IT'S HIGH ART! YOU JUST DON'T GET IT.

Yes, I do get it. Yes, it's still solipsistic crap.

svraz - 2010-03-30

Solipsistic or sophistry?

Lurchi - 2010-03-30

IT'S HIGH ART! YOU JUST DON'T GET IT.

svraz - 2010-03-31

Either way its fun to watch.
As Enki said: boobies and wacky hats!!!!!!!

enki don't - 2010-03-31

um, I think art gets a pass, for better or worse effect on being solipsistic.
I think you meant to say that you find this highly self-indulgent.

Yep. That happens in art a lot.

APE_GOD - 2010-03-30

Masterpiece, huh?

La Loco - 2010-03-30

I can see that poe is too wise to be taken in by this so-called "art".

Syd Midnight - 2010-03-31

For a while I thought this was a self-indulgent scene from some 60s art movie but I guess it isn't?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-03-31

I was a bit confused as to why nobody was singing "Christmas in Heaven" at first...
