lol 'speechwriter'
um. David Frum did a lot more than write speeches.
Sort of misleading title. He basically resigned.
Five stars for David Frum.

Richmond - 2010-03-26 In my defence, I didn't know what kind of notoriety David Frum has in the States. He's Canadian, so we all know who he is up here. I just followed the clip's lead and used the same introduction it did.
And when this went into the hopper, the only information available was that he reported to Andrew Coyne that he'd been fired, and he wrote a "resignation" letter that ended with "I do regret this abrupt and unexpected conclusion of our relationship." The resignation spin came after the submission.
|
StanleyPain - 2010-03-26 Yeah I would "resign" too after I had been told I wouldn't have a position there anymore and that any attempts to keep any sort of position with the organization would be met with refusal, hostility, and basically being fired.

APE_GOD - 2010-03-27 Stanley,
He had stopped contributing to AEI while developing his own blog and website; probably for all of the reasons listed here. AEI didn't like that and offered him an unpaid position, basically so his name would be affiliated with the institute.
He turned it down.

Wonko the Sane - 2010-03-27 SPK: To be fair, his original SOTU speech had it as "Axis of Terror", but it wasn't deemed forceful enough, so we got "Axis of Evil" instead.

Camonk - 2010-03-27 I think it's obvious. I'm not a conservative. Ergo, conservatives disagree with me. Ergo, they can't be as smart as I. So they're not intellectuals. It's logically impossible. Maybe, Ape God, YOU should read more! Read a little bit about, oh, the MILLENIA OLD study of LOGIC.

APE_GOD - 2010-03-27 Using Palin-like circular reasoning to distance yourself from modern conservatism! Brilliant!

baleen - 2010-03-27
There used to be a conservative intellectual movement. It's dead now.
|
Camonk - 2010-03-27 Thanks, Ape God! I also like to think of myself as brilliant! I like having my opinions confirmed by internet people!

Is Shuster in a fucking barn?
I like having opponents that can think, compare this guy to Jonah Goldberg, one of the current high thinkers of the conservative movement, Frum runs circles around him. Hopefully in 10 years he's be vindicated, but by then he'll be a conservative democrat, tarred and feathered of his own party

What does it say about conservative organizations (and conservatives in general) that they are willing to fire someone for having an opinion that doesn't fall directly in line with their dogma?
Do people notice this shit?
