Despite the fact that FX was clearly angling for their own 'Venture Bros.' (especially with the rip-off title screen), I like that the creators took the show in a different direction.

While both shows use the boys' adventure fiction of the 1960s as a jumping-off point, the shows deal with different topics. 'Venture Bros.' is more a character study on the failure of super-science, while 'Archer' deals more with the inner-office politics of a super-science spy organization. The former is all about internal development, whereas the latter is all about external development.

TL;DR: Despite the similar settings, the shows are trying to be different things, so any comparison is moot.

Extra spirit star because I strongly suspect Archer will be banging his mother by the end of the second season.

I'm gonna go ahead and give the full 5 stars because Archer fills the void in my heart left by Frisky Dingo in a way The Xtacles completely failed to.

But, Adam Reed still needs to do more major character voices.

It is better if you know the show already.

It's not McGurk, it's not Venture, but it's alright nonetheless. Still, I trading in both venture and archer for an other season of home movies. Yeah, I said it.

I second your opinion, Aelric. I just got back from spending the weekend at an old friend's house and we probably spent 80% of it re-watching old Home Movies DVDs.

I said it before, I'll say it again: H. Jon is one of the greatest comic geniuses alive today.
