This guy was crippled with constantly trying to make his audience get the subversive points he put in his sketches. Every episode began with him talking about the reception to the previous episode--not in a "look how controversial we are" way, but a "look, you guys have been talking about it, but you got it wrong, here's an explanation" kind of way.
Conspiracy Theory: He fled to Africa because his material became too obvious after this fact, even for him to stomach.
