Pseudo-historian? Go fuck yourself, Mothership, this documentary was killer and James Burke was the awesome in it, even if it is a little outdated at this point.

The Mothership - 2010-04-27 Hmmmm. All right, ok. Perhaps 'Pseudo-historian' was pushing it. Description amended. However, his interpretation of the Battle of Hastings was outdated even back then; his reliance on William of Jumieges and William of Poitiers was (and is) highly questionable, and he simplifies too much to remain credible.

The Mothership - 2010-04-27 Christ, calm down. I'm a medievalist, and I take issue with his handling of medieval history. I got no specific beefs with his take on the last 200 years of technological advancement.

Connections Series 1 and the Day the Universe Changed are incredibly important shows. After that things got a little forced with the connections he'd make being a bit of a stretch, but those two shows are incredibly important if you want to get a rough idea of why technology in the west developed the way it did.

i like the change from psuedo to popular historian, but not because i am vested in which it is.
also part 5 starts with awesome innuendo about rubbing glass balls.

5 stars for Burke. I wasn't interested in history until I saw Connections. Plus, he's such a bad motherfucker, he brings a broadsword and a suitcase bomb on a picnic.

This is like 30-35 years old, give him a break. They hadn't even invented PCs yet. And Burke is awesome.

Syd Midnight - 2010-04-28 BTW a big lavishly illustrated book edition of Connections from 1980 was my favorite bathroom book ever.
