Mom, internet people are being all internetty in an internet comments thread! Moooooom!

jangbones - 2010-04-28

Of COURSE xenophobia and racism drive this legislation.

On the list of problems facing this country, illegal immigration comes in at about a thousand. Even with the crime, the economic burden on the health care system and the school system that comes with illegal immigration, even in the hardest hit states, its a drop in the bucket.

What am I bothering for? When have facts or reality ever driven the politics of the ignorant?

AfricanScience - 2010-04-28

lol politics of the ignorant. let me guess. third on that issue is smashing the oppressive gender norms that enslave us all.

we seriously need a holocaust that weeds out all of you white people. make it happen obama.

Riskbreaker - 2010-04-28

Who can save us from all this evil?

Cube - 2010-04-28

That Lindsey chick looks like a dude.

magnesium - 2010-04-28

As a white, English speaking Canadian, I am totally going to sneak into Arizona and get like five jobs and see how long it takes for anybody to catch me.

It's important to maintain immigration controls to ensure employment and resources go to taxpayers who are in the country legally, and all, but I always laugh when I see self proclaimed soldiers of capitalism freaking out over illegal immigrants. If it saves my business lots of money to hire illegal immigrants for half the price, why should the big mean government be allowed to tell me no? Dirty socialists.

RockBolt - 2010-04-28

This is fucking terrifying

mantang0 - 2010-04-28

FABIO - 2010-04-28

The surest way to smelling bullshit on a right wing shitbag organization is how much they try too hard with their name.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-04-28

Insidious motherfuckers.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-28

"This is another tool for our state to use" --> we do not intend to apply this fairly, rule of law be damned. But if you are Hispanic and accused of a crime, we'll use the fact that people don't carry around their birth certificate to pile on another charge, thus forcing you into a plea bargain.

That said, I don't like the Dan Brown shit any better when Maddow does it than when Beck does... what with the sound bites from '86 by a guy who may have employed another guy, etc, etc. And it's unnecessary, since this thing is repugnant even if it can't be shown that the barber of the guy who wrote once got flight lessons from Hitler's grandson. ("Darwinian-Galtonian" still makes me want to vomit though)

cognitivedissonance - 2010-04-29

Well, Glenn Beck usually connects the dots to some fairly harmless old hippy dudes who may have written an anti-Nixon screed in 1971, or who possibly have a weed problem, when Maddow connects the dots it's usually to a Satanic cult or the Colonia Dignidad or a pro-slavery educational "institution".

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-28

punch lady faces

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-28

meant to go in the top thread

CornOnTheCabre - 2010-04-28

worst state of the union

Nithing - 2010-04-28

Florida's just not making the effort these days.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-04-29

And New Mexico still looks good compared with Old Mexico. So congrats Arizona, your ability to pander to people's basest fears has earned you a permanent top spot on the bottom.

Xero - 2010-04-28

You know if Texas did this it would just be another day in America. Way to go, Arizona.

Crucifried - 2010-04-29

"Really , really, really famous for a really, really long time"

Just like that whole boondoggle with McCain and the governor trying to keep Martin Luther King Jr. Day from being a state holiday because of "cost concerns", right?

phalsebob - 2010-04-29

Oh forgot my stars.

knowless - 2010-04-29

so what happens when you stop someone for a basic offence like running a yellow light, or whatever... if they dont have real ID are they held until identity is confirmed then deported to their legal place of residence?..

what do you do with a man who has been deported multiple times, who has a family here, but is not eligible for citizenship?

i would be arrested for refusing to show my id.
so i dont really understand why people are upset about racism instead of the destruction of the 4th amendment..

stage - 2010-04-29

What the hell, if you guys are against this law does that mean you're for legalizing all illegal aliens? Or do you want them to be just ignored by the law still?, a skeleton in a closet unopened.

Do you want to make every person in the world a citizen of the United States? Get the wool out of your eyes and realize that the path of liberalism does not bring enlightenment, but only mediocrity.

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-04-29

Not that I assume you're anything other than a hit and run racist, but please... enlighten the poeTV users to the disadvantages of amnesty for current illegals.

stage - 2010-04-29

Amnesty for current illegals is impossible, you could only grant amnesty for current illegals by also granting amnesty for all future illegals. If you read my above sentence and cannot think of any disadvantages of that, let me know.

Also, why are you calling me a rascist for being against illegal immigration?

poorwill - 2010-04-29

Setting aside amnesty for the moment, this law is fucking horrible. Being against this law says nothing about somebody beyond that they aren't a foaming dumbass.

Keefu - 2010-04-29

None of these problems gets solved at all or in any manner by increased militarisation on the border and stupid fucking nativist laws, retard.

Nevermind, either, that current migrant workers are bought over the border by U.S. companies essentially as a cheap source of wage slave labor in order to a) ensure profits and b) keep basic services and the cost of cheap goods low so Americans can afford to maintain their lifestyles as the knee-jerkingly conservative and enfattened, stupid retards of the world.

We could actually do something about this by improving how labor is treated in both countries by passing strong labor and wage price laws or amending the neo-liberal free-trade practices that our businesses encourage in order to ensure a source of cheap labor so your fat-ass is able to screech about Mexicans on the internet in relative comfort.

OR we can pass completely insane and militarist border laws in order to uselessly police our border even though they are an abhorrent expansion of state power and crazy fucking expensive.

You decide, you entitled idiot.

stage - 2010-04-29

"We could actually do something about this by improving how labor is treated in both countries by passing strong labor and wage price laws"

How are you going to improve how labour is treated in other countries? Would the US government go in and police their factories and workplaces? Or would we just pass a bunch of resolutions and laws that these countries already have no problem ignoring via the UN?

By actually really enforcing the deportation of illegal immigrants it would solve your problems of: "a) ensure profits and b) keep basic services and the cost of cheap goods low so Americans can afford to maintain their lifestyles as the knee-jerkingly conservative and enfattened, stupid retards of the world."

So, is it easier and cheaper to enforce immigration laws, or to somehow bring the entire world to the same standard of living as the United States? Or maybe the best way is to forget about striving for the best and let our standard of living slip down to being par with 2nd and 3rd world countries...

Keefu - 2010-04-30

"How are you going to improve how labour is treated in other countries? Would the US government go in and police their factories and workplaces? Or would we just pass a bunch of resolutions and laws that these countries already have no problem ignoring via the UN?"

I dunno, broheim. Maybe we could work harder at putting labour protections we already hold into the free trade agreements that continue to make Latin America economically dependent upon us (and us upon them)? Hold countries accountable for hiring people who are basically a slave labor class at this point in time and horribly racially scapegoated for a multitude of the problems this idiotic country has? Or how about tougher laws on when our companies out-source to Mexico and other Latin-American countries which keeps them in dependent and in poverty? All of this can be done here and now, by us, to help.

"By actually really enforcing the deportation of illegal immigrants it would solve your problems of"

Nope, retard. Thinking that removing economic migrant workers in the US would do anything but create huge pressure to lower the wages of workers with US citizenship or jack up the price of goods betrays an ignorance of the roots of problem.

"So, is it easier and cheaper to enforce immigration laws, or to somehow bring the entire world to the same standard of living as the United States? Or maybe the best way is to forget about striving for the best and let our standard of living slip down to being par with 2nd and 3rd world countries..."

"Striving for the best" currently entails KEEPING 2nd and 3rd world countries in absolute poverty through our current neo-liberal free trade laws and using or importing their citizenship as a cheap source of labor. The lifestyle you currently hold is made possible by the fact someone's life in another country is made and kept a great deal more horrible than it should ever need to be. Yet you continue to open your fat, cum-stained mouth in utter ignorance about topics you know nothing about.

stage - 2010-05-01

You know what? I don't give a fuck, you're not gonna convince me, especially if you're resorting to personal attacks. If anything that solidifies my own opinions further. So, fuck off.

Sorry to anyone reading this for bringing poetv comments down to the level of youtube comments.

Keefu - 2010-05-01

Bullshit. Poetv is already a stupid worthless quagmire of Youtube-lite comments and shitty cat videos. I am not bringing this place down to anything it isn't already and, either way, affronting a holier-than-thou tone while literally calling someone a retard is my current thing here.

Anyway, you still haven't told me why further militarization of the border is going to magically solve an incredibly complex and structural problem.

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-04-29

See, the racism comes into play when you pass a law that spefically targets the little brown people of Arizona by assuming they are illegals because they "look" mexican.

There's the equal, but less obvious, racist burden of guilt upon the little brown people for actually going there. In reality, the people that provide incentive for illegals are JUST as culpable... if not moreso.

Connecting the dots for any inbred hillbillies that might be wondering, it IS racist to not address the economic situation that causes the whole mess... and just say "sorry, little brown people. You're all guilty and can go home now back to your little brown hovel. Nice Mr. Whitey McWhiterson here who was giving you money and led you to believe it was acceptable to be here will be waiting to repeat this process again tomorrow. If you can run through our bullets and 19th century legislation, you'll be rich again!"

Monkey Napoleon - 2010-04-29

oops... supposed to be a reply to above.
