Actually, about half the shows on Fox are pulling this shit this week. It's part of some sort of tie-in with Glee. The network is to blame for this particular mess, not the writers.

All the network asked for was some music numbers, which the Simpsons have done a hundred times before with creativity and humor. No one forced them to lazily reenact whatever YouTube video came up first.

That said, I'm neither amused nor offended by this. I've seen it done better, but its not like The Simpsons still has high standards to live up to.

The song sucks, but the lyrics refer to a lot of varied activities which can be used to set up visual gags. I'm guessing that's why they picked this one. It's a bad song but makes for a good cartoon sequence.

Yeah, I think it was completely great till about season 10 or 11 and then it just got ATROCIOUS remarkably fast. I got a bootleg in Vietnam with 21 seasons on it and 10 of those or so are completely worthless.

This was the first time I'd ever heard this song. I'm not with the times and I'm glad.

this is the first time i've heard the "real" song, and i'm deeply saddened to learn that it is a commercial release, and not a song that was composed entirely for the sake of making a chris-chan fan video.

Wasn't the Bartman in like season 1 or 2? The first season (and possibly the second) of the Simpsons may have been entertaining at the time, but I think most people who think the Simpsons had a "golden age" will agree that the first season was definitely NOT it, and that it actually kinda sucks in retrospect. So yeah, I'd say the Simpsons was definitely above this kind of thing in seasons 3-9.

Funny how it often takes good shows a few seasons to really hit their groove. The first seasons of the Simpsons, Seinfeld, MST3K, and South Park are all basically unwatchable to me.
