The 'good looking ripped guy without much hair' is the guy on the right. What Mr. Fanelli means to say is he wouldn't mind being pulled out of line if they were profiling big ripped intimidating men, because that's the kind he goes for.

Plus there's been attempted attacks by people old and young, weak and fit, white, black, Arab, and Hispanic. The only underrepresented group is women. But for some reason he ignores the obvious physical difference that would protect half the population, in favor of characteristics that describe himself.

Give me a break, though appearance doesn't say everything about everybody it does say a lot. Stating that law enforcement can't be guided by people's appearance is pure idealistic bullshit. You guys are likely guilty of it too. If you just got a lot of money from an ATM who would you rather see when you turn around a young black man or a little white woman. And If you tell me it wouldn't matter to you then you're a liar.

Yes but it is evident that the guy most likely terrorist is the guy on the right. Political correctness sucks. Its not profiling its common sense.

The guy on the right is also the most likely to be a marine, a police officer, an air marshal, a stripper, and an Italian. The guy on the left looks like he has less to live for, more room in his clothing for concealed weapons, and (under Dan Fanelli's perfect system) wouldn't have gone through security.

Rather than talking about profiling a priori, why not just look at the fucking numbers? I'd be willing to buy it's "common sense" (it's animal sense, but that's besides the point) if it actually bought us anything.

And then, only at that point, could we begin to ask: are the rights of brown people to be secure in their persons worth more than the rights of white people to feel more secure in their airports?

You should both also know that criminologists in the past have theorized that there is a link between physical characteristics and "criminality". That idea died in the last century when no one could find any empirical fucking evidence of it.

Charles, those are good examples and only further prove my point. I am not sure if that was your intention or not. When looking for a terrorist suspect, we can hone down are search to a high probability of being middle eastern as well as a smaller, but still high probability of being white. Statistics also show us that the suspect we look for is most likely not black, chinese or japanese.

We can also apply statistics to other crimes. For example when we are looking for a...
..drive by gang shooting, there is a good chance they are black or mexican.
...serial killer, there is a good chance they are white.
...abortion clinic bomber, there is a good chance they are white.

Of course no rule could be 100%, but you already knew that.

A study that links physical characteristics and crimes sounds silly. I can't imagine that there would be a successful study like that.
