I love what David Lynch did with the new Cat in the Hat movie. Lots of people have their own views on what the more elaborate sequences like this mean but I personally believe that the cat in the black hat represents God, uncaring and within all of us, while the cat in the red had symbolizes the id, the green the ego, and the orange hat the elusive superego.

The look on the cat's face is less "angry" and more "stern father figure watching his protégé train."
