At first I thought it was just a cinematic, which was disappointing. They're rarely ever indicative of actual gameplay. Then I realized that the guy was actually playing it - which is even more disappointing. Is the whole game just a slightly interactive movie?

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2010-06-17

There were segments like this in the first game. If anything it's more interactive than the first game's "shoot this tentacle" segments.

This is the direction FPS/action games have been moving for years.

I remember playing Metal Gear Solid 2 way back when, thinking how awful it was after the first couple missions. I had no idea at the time that it would become the industry standard.

Mike Tyson?! - 2010-06-17

There were like 3 or 4 QTEs the whole game, and they were over quick enough that it wasn't too repetitive. This and Portal 2 are the only games I am really looking to buy when they come out and not during a Steam deal weekend.

The gameplay in this section seems to be reduced to a quick time event and then just aiming your gun after the monsters shakes you around.

They made a sequence that can be played with one hand.

"They made a sequence that can be played with one hand."

And it's not even Zero Suit Samus!

I really enjoyed the original, it was a bit unique in a couple aspects and generally had a good creepy vibe. The alien infested fetuses were a bit offensive, but probably that was the idea.

The weapons styles, limited ammo, and damage effects were challenging but fun. Having to shoot off legs and what not to slow the aliens down rather than just blasting away, made things more interesting, every shot really counted.

Not too many cheap BOO! moments, but enough to keep things on edge. Annoying dark at times.

Solid game, didn't really get the respect it deserved.

Comeuppance - 2010-06-18

I would say it got too much respect. The circle-jerking I observed among people buying into the hype and then earnestly trying to validate it through each other was some kind of amazing.

There has to be a more concise term for that phenomenon.

It's by no means a bad game, but just really plain. To partially paraphrase Yahtzee: By all means I support EA branching out into more interesting games than their annual iterations of sports games wherein they just refine them slightly and update the rosters, but this (now apparently a) series is not worthy of accolades and awards.

I couldn't tell what was happening through most of that. It would seem video games have been reduced to a lot of flashing lights and pressing the X button at the right moment.

memedumpster - 2010-06-18

I started laughing when the X appeared on the forehead.

Candlejackv616 - 2010-06-18

Holy shit I didn't even see the X.

theSnake - 2010-06-18

A stupid game for faggots that like to press X to win

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-06-18

I can't remember how much I paid for Dead Space on Steam, but I bought it on sale so it could not have been more than five dollars. It was certainly worth more than that, so my complaints about it are exactly zero.

I will definitely be buying this game under similar circumstances.
