Reading up on the fractal itself, it is a pretty interesting spatial iterator, although it doesn't really bear much similarity to a Mandelbrot.

You want "Tglad's formula (Mandelbox)" as the fractal type and a power/scale setting of something like 2, 3, or maybe -1.7. There are some presets samples that come with the software. The easiest way to navigate is to set the image really small (like 100x100) in the "image" tab, use the "view" tab to browser around until you find something you like, and then crank up the image size for the full render. As I type this my 6-core Phenom II is 39 minutes into rendering a new background image for my desktop.
