"I was at this race. I had one of those scanners and was listening the the Production channel shortly after this wreck. The camera manager said over the channel "don't get in too close on his car, he is probably dead". I'll never forget hearing those words.
We were told he was "out of the car" but never heard anything of his condition. We didn't know he was alive until we got home and caught the highlight on ESPN. Sobering end to a pretty good race. "
