I wanted this really bad too. This was the best game on the C64, from my memory of it.

FABIO - 2010-07-19

The best C64 game was Crossroads, a Wizards of Wor clone that blew the original away.

StanleyPain - 2010-07-19

Say, if you liked Crossroads and have an Xbox 360, you may want to check out Crosstown in the indie games marketplace. A friend of mine made it and it's a pretty good Crossroads homage if I do say so myself.

Testicles of Doom - 2010-07-19

Fuck yeah! Crossroads!

Also, Space Taxi.

Binro the Heretic - 2010-07-19

I MANUALLY PROGRAMMED "CROSSROADS" INTO MY C64 FROM "COMPUTE'S GAZZETTE" MAGAZINE!

Of course, first, I had to MANUALLY PROGRAM IN THE MACHINE-LANGUAGE ENTRY PROGRAM FROM "COMPUTE'S GAZETTE" MAGAZINE!

And then I had to WAIT A MONTH FOR THE "ACCIDENTALLY" OMITTED LINES OF CODE THAT MADE THE GAME WORK.

It was totally worth it, though. TOTALLY!

So was the sequel "Crossroads II: Pandemonium"

FABIO - 2010-07-20

The only thing that sucked about Crossroads was eventually all the enemies would be purple rubberheads, a very annoying and boring enemy. All the other enemies were fun except those damn rubber heads.

Lyonbear!

I found the title interesting, too. There's not a whole lot of overlap between the video game era and the time when mail order was relevant.

StanleyPain - 2010-07-19

This was an awesome game. It was from the original, classic period of Electronic Arts (when EA was known for quality and being a very, very small company) I remember it fondly.

It also had an awesome manual, back when companies bothered with packaging. The manual had a catalog of most of the weapons in the game using actual photos. In other words, they built little toy props of all the weapons in the game and took pictures of them to make it look like some kind of mail order catalog or something.

poorwill - 2010-07-19

The Paul Reiche III you see on the title screen is the same one who worked on the awesome Star Control II! Please remove the 'shit games' tag, you fat fuck.

Robin Kestrel - 2010-07-19

He also was one of the three people responsible for Archon and Archon II: Adept, as is evident from the battlescreens in MoM.

Syd Midnight - 2010-07-19

I had a pirated copy and it was totally awesome, especially 2-player where you could duel your creatures.

chumbucket - 2010-07-19

"in your face" victory screen

Binro the Heretic - 2010-07-19

Two-player was always more fun.

The computer AI cheated like a mother-fucker.

StanleyPain - 2010-07-19

I noticed that a lot of times the CPU was not slowed down by terrain, so yeah, that got annoying.

Volbard - 2010-07-19

I think they used all the same battle sounds in Archon and Adept. It sucked to play the computer in those games too.

Neurotic - 2010-07-19

Oh man this game was so rad. Even if the computer AI just cheated with BeastFu!
