Shortly before he was killed off, the writers decided to honor the character by turning him from a clever, whimsical, and endearing fellow into a babbling retard.
Then they extended the metaphor by doing this to the entire show.
After his death didn't they get into some crap with beyond stupid idea of "evolved neanderthals" that dimension hop (and ate eyeballs?), got rid of this chick with the hotter chick as her replacement, and Quinns brother from and amish like world was thrown into the mix?
Plus they retconned shit with Quinn to the point of "Brand New Day" levels of ludicrous...use to really like this show up till all that bullshit...unsurprisingly if I recall this all happened during the switch to the then "sci fi" channel.
Apparently the writers killed off all of the actors they didn't like in horrible ways. The girl was supposedly left stranded on a gang rape planet or something.
I remembered coming across some of the later episodes of Sliders when Jerry O'Connell's brother was on and all I could think about was how weird that guy looked, like he was the result of a failed experiment with O'Connell DNA.
If I may be fat for a moment, although Sliders did get pretty absurd in later seasons, the Sci-Fi switch was actually good for the show. Fox apparently had a kung-fu grip on creative control for their shows during this period and was responsible for basically turning season three into an action/adventure show copying popular movies.
The Sci-Fi seasons at least returned to the original premise. Of course this also meant a return to Kromaggs and cheesy science fiction. If Sliders continued today down the road Fox was taking it, you'd have a week where everyone ended up on a "Twilight world" where vampires and werewolves were fighting or whatever the fuck.
