Don't get your hopes up too much. There are some great scenes and characters, but expect about a third of the time to be filled with distracting B-stories featuring annoying characters behaving like idiots. Its worth checking out, but keep in mind its like Lost in that its moments of awesome like this that'll get you through the suck.

I'm getting toward the end of season1, and you can put me down as loving every minute of it. It's a soap opera, and I love soap opera when it's well done. Think Twin Peaks. Different style, but very similar genre.

There are bad patches where the shitty writing from the books leaks through, but it's mostly a damn good viewing from the start. Season 2 is worth it, just for the crazy evangelicals.

Pretty much what Irish Whiskey said. Stuff like this would be the last 5 minutes of every Lost episode where something actually happens. The rest is filler of Tara and her goddamn mother threatening to kill themselves, or a 20 something manchild trying to date a teenager.

This current plot might actually be interesting though. Since the beginning of the series I always wondered why they ignored the most interesting plot line, mainstream PR vampires vs violent old school killers, in favor of TARA AND HER GODDAMN MOTHER.

To be fair, the whole Tara and her mother storyline is really relevant to the plot of all of season 2 because of reasons I don't want to spoil. They work it all in very nicely. Tara's mother is crazy and annoying but I love watching her. It's like watching Epic Bus Fight man in female form becoming a churchgoer.

Because it's awesome?

He might just pick it up naturally after a hundred and fifty years, but you have to think that vampires would get pretty good at blending in with their neighbors, so as to no arouse suspicion.

But mostly because it's awesome.

Because a Hittite accent makes you sound like a real douche.

Because accents change when you move around and settle elsewhere. It's a coping mechanism to hide the fact that you're an outsider.

After a couple thousand years of ceaseless life you'd be dangerously insane too

If he learned English in the South first, he would have picked up the accent. The same as when people in India or Asia study English by copying British accents if that is where their language learning program is based or if they learn from British teachers.

Well, I just came here to post this, but looks like I'm a full two years late to the party here.

Having watched only this and the latest season, I'd consider myself a fan. Morbid curiosity has kept me going through the dull patches, but I'm glad they're starting to get back into the vampire mainstreaming effort, which is undoubtedly the most fascinating part of this show. There's more than a couple times where I genuinely feel like the best solution would be to just kill all vampires, and I love that this show makes me feel that way.

Fear and genuine horror are not something I would have expected from something with vampires.
