I contend that Gaming in the Clinton Years/NAVIGATR is the most baffling thing on poetv. Nobody knows what to make of it. Real, or incredibly elaborate parody? Who was this guy's audience, and how/why did they distribute it in an era of dialup, assuming it's real?

memedumpster - 2010-08-28

I sort of assumed this was a new thing, we were his audience, and the title came from the era the games came from, not when the videos were made.

Potrod - 2010-08-28

He refers to the "upcoming Ultra64" in one of his SNES game reviews. If it's new, he makes a lot of effort to make it sound "authentic." I read somewhere else, possibly here, that they're actual old reviews and that the "Gaming in the clinton years" title was tacked on later. Still bizarre, whatever the case is. http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=45857 may blow your mind.

Well, if I were to theorize, I'd say that in the mid 90's, there was streaming video, despite the fact that is was very low quality. There were hundreds of internet shows through companies like Pseudo, which you can see more about in a documentary called 'We Live In Public". Now, I honestly don't know what the case was for NAViGaTR, but that is my guess.

Oh, and the narrator, George Wood, is about 5 years dead. That one I'm sure about.

Quad9Damage - 2010-08-28

They are real. I believe it was a show in the mid-90s, probably public access.

I did some googling and found this:

They are real and really old.

There was a article advertising in 2007 a video game cruise featuring video game music concert and...Cloris Leachman, that has a statement from Mr.Wood regarding Cloris, heres the link:

http://www.navgtr.org/id62.html

So either this guys dead and the site most likely dated the article wrong, or they have been pulling our pud chain big time.

Maybe since he is reportedly listed as board member at Navigtr, the videos and the backlash they received embarrassed his clueless unfunny ass so much they figured "fuck it lets just fake his death and hope people forget about it"

...yeah that shit ain't gonna happen, nice try though!

*cringes at the thought of trying to watch this over RealVideo*

Thanks for enlightening me, y'all!

I used to love this game and Super Empire Strikes Back. The boss battles with Darth Vader were one of the SNES high points for me.

Doomstein - 2010-08-28

Also this guy is full of shit with regard to the jump attack. That shit will get you killed Vader can't touch you if you crouch and block using your lightsaber. When there's a pause in his attacks you wail on him then go back to block..

Quad9Damage - 2010-08-28

It seems like all his techniques for beating the bosses involve getting hurt a lot.

Innocent Bystander - 2010-08-28

"The Emperor is very unforgiving, but SOOO are YOUU."

Also points for very audible page turns.

Quad9Damage - 2010-08-28

He nearly blows a load over the Mode 7 levels.

sosage - 2010-08-28

Mode 7 level. As opposed to non-Mode 7 levels.

fluffy - 2010-08-29

Mode 7 at least kinda-sorta meant something, unlike BLAST PROCESSING

dementomstie - 2010-08-28

Mal-Len-ium Falcon?

Quad9Damage - 2010-09-05

You know, this guy sounds like such a nerd that I'm surprised he didn't know the "green pigs" are called Gamorreans.
