wtf japan - 2010-08-28
Beyond the basic inhumanity, engaging in overt homophobia seems like an incredibly stupid business decision for someone in the entertainment industry to make.
baleen - 2010-08-28
The gears in their heads were causing worry that this would destroy the show, directed toward children. I was once told that I should think about not having one of my characters be Asian, in a roundabout way, because it would alienate white middle American audiences. It was racist and awful, but they were completely right.
Because people are awful.
baleen - 2010-08-28
... but on that note I think it would be harder to get away with this 15 years into the future. The early 90's were a testing ground for acceptance of gayness in the mainstream. This was also Fox, and Fox appoints the most conservative pieces of shit to run their studios that you can think of other than ABC.
ashtar. - 2010-10-07 One of the characters you portray in your delightful one man show?
Blue - 2012-11-12 The entertainment industry hates gays. People always point to gay characters and celebrities, but you know what? Those gay characters are played almost exclusively by straight people, and those celebrities were famous BEFORE they were out.
If you're an out gay actor, you're going to need to go into the closet if you want any work.

baleen - 2010-08-28
well, obviously he didn't pray hard enough.
Aress - 2010-08-28
Egads I had no idea. Still looks pretty good though frankly.
freedoom - 2010-08-28
He was my favorite ranger for a while. It's a shame that this happened to him. But let's not forget that the people who did this to him are also responsible for Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, that shitty live action series where they made the female turtle.
Buggerman - 2010-08-28 You have a favorite Power Ranger?
Caminante Nocturno - 2010-08-28
One can never be reminded enough that the entertainment industry is largely run by repugnant people.
phalsebob - 2010-08-28
As if I need another reason to despise the people that made this show.
poorwill - 2010-08-28 ohshit somebody already did the colour thing.
I think there actually is a power rangers thing in japan that has a flamboyantly gay rainbow ranger. It might even be on poetv.
poorwill - 2010-08-28 ugh, wrong thread.
Cena_mark - 2010-08-28
Looks like he should have been the pink ranger.

Anaxagoras - 2010-08-28 *Wherever that line lies. Stupid typo.
longwinded - 2010-08-28 oh come on people make him work for it at least
Cena_mark - 2010-08-28 Good God you libs are uptight. Somebody had to make a pink ranger joke. The joke was right out there taunting me, shouting, "Tell Me!"
When does everything here have to be so serious? Its not like I called David Yost on the phone and told him he should have been the pink ranger.
I'm a decent person and I'm not a homophobe. I voted for the right for gays to marry in Georgia.

Rape Van Winkle - 2010-08-28 No. The Asian ranger wore yellow. The black ranger wore black. The girl ranger (one of two females, but the one who's character was more girly) wore pink.
Billy clearly should have been the rainbow ranger.

Rape Van Winkle - 2010-08-28 And then I read Poorwill's comment way above. We are posting in alternate dimensions.

poorwill - 2010-08-28 I am posting from the retard dimension.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-08-28
It would probably have some more impact if they left out the Starcraft music.
cognitivedissonance - 2010-08-28
On a similar note, why did the Black Ranger have to actually be black?
dead_cat - 2010-08-28 Because in lieu of wearing a yarmulke, the Jewy Ranger had to be blue. And the red ranger had to be the leader, therefore he couldn't be a minority, so that left them with either not having the Asian ranger be yellow, or having a guy be the pink ranger, neither of which were acceptable choices.

Meatsack Jones - 2010-08-28
Whine, bitch , moan. I mean, the frackin' Yellow Ranger used to be a guy before landing in the US.
Sundry - 2010-08-28 You are a "fracking" cockwart.

elm axo - 2010-08-28
this would be a lot easier for him to get through if his housemate would stop practicing guitar right there next to him
exar_kun - 2010-08-28
Out of all the groups out there I would have thought the power rangers would be the most tolerant, if they discriminated against him for being gay, they must have been brutal to Alpha the robot.
fluffy - 2010-08-29
I always assumed it was because he was playing a 16-year-old at age 28.
Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2010-08-29
That is fucking rough.
kingofthenothing - 2010-09-09
5 for evil. I have nothing to add that isn't already obvious. I'm glad he can be in a position to give advice and try to help others, though.
goat - 2010-09-22
As rough as this was, I was expecting it to get worse. As soon as he said "then I went to Mexico with my dad" I was expecting that sentence to end "...and he tried to ditch and/or kill me there for being gay." But no! At least his family appears to be supportive.
SixDigitDebt - 2012-02-17
I find this ironic as the red ranger is the one who went on to do gay porn.
