memedumpster - 2010-09-11

: D

The Mothership - 2010-09-11

Oh my, it has come full circle. Next they will be shilling VCR's to grannies because DVD menus are too complicated.

kingofthenothing - 2010-09-11

No shit. I have a great aunt that firmly believes old technology is better than new technology. She truly believes vinyl records are going to make a huge comeback and that her VHS tapes will last longer than a DVD. She only converted family films from the 50's and 60's to VHS to make it more accessible to the rest of the family. I guess in her mind there's a reverse singularity going on and we'll all be back to sticks and stones in forty years.

Robin Kestrel - 2010-09-12

It's not that the older, proven technology is "better", it's that it meets their needs. It's like a less extreme Amish thing... why be an early adopter and automatically jump to every new technology that comes along? Even a vastly superior innovation still takes a long time to fully replace the previous standard (see e-mail vs. telegrams... telegrams hung around as late as 1999).

fulakarp - 2010-09-11

GODDAMN PICTURES GIT OUTTA MY CAMERA

Anaxagoras - 2010-09-11

If I had any stars left to give, they'd be yours.

Xenocide - 2010-09-11

The goblins living inside your computer may sometimes grow restless and refuse to let you see your pictures. Fight back against them with Vivitar! Unlike digital, our cameras are powered by elves, who are friendly. The way you remember!

Aelric - 2010-09-11

So, they are clearing out the old warehouse.

glendower - 2010-09-11

WOW. How come no one thought of this before!? Plus 50 stars for the fake laughing at :57.

Chalkdust - 2010-09-11

everything old is new again

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2010-09-11

What I don't get is... I mean, every dollar store still has at least one 35mm camera for sale. And even big chain stores still sell 35mm. Why is this such a special thing? It'd be like "Remember those good old fashioned red toilet pungers? Buy one off the TV now!" when you could go into any hardware store and get one.

Aelric - 2010-09-11

Like I said above. I literally think they are trying to move out a large amount of built up 35mm's from years of super slumping sale in order to clear out space. It's the going out of business sale of cheap film cameras.

Redford - 2010-09-11

If you check the related videos, you can see there's an ad for a Kodak film camera as well, except it's three times as expensive (). Apparently they were unable to sell those cameras and retooled the components into these and started selling two at a time (with extra shipping and processing).

Syd Midnight - 2010-09-11

More like grandpa ordering a red plunger off TV for because the local hardware store only sells the funny looking accordion plungers that work 10x better, because dammit plungers are red cups dammit Obama.

JimL2 - 2010-09-11

If you had paused this commercial at 0:18 and asked me what I thought they were selling...

charmlessman - 2010-09-11

Uh... babies?

fluffy - 2010-09-11

Yeah I thought it was going to be yet another shitty photo printer where you hook up your digital camera and it prints them for you, or maybe an ad for Walgreen's photo service where you take your camera in and they give you prints JUST LIKE ON A FILM CAMERA, or whatever.

YakooMarkTwo - 2010-09-11

2.5 stars go to this offer not being available in stores

2.5 stars go to the old guy taking pictures by holding the camera over his right shoulder

Ed Begley Jr. and the Cinco Phone wasn't as much of a joke as I thought, I guess.

Adham Nu'man - 2010-09-11

Digital cameras were invented to make your life MORE complicated. That's why all those stupid young and non-white people bought one.

Nikon - 2010-09-11

Stars.

charmlessman - 2010-09-11

Black and White = CONFUSING!!!

kanyakumari - 2010-09-11

So looking at the lens flare at 1:20, the flash actually comes out of the vivitar logo?

TeenerTot - 2010-09-11

If you're not capable of making digital prints, I'm not sure I trust you to drive that film to the drugstore, Grandpa.

RomancingTrain - 2010-09-11

at :43 the actress drops a photo and they don't bother doing an other take.

Anaxagoras - 2010-09-11

It added to the believability. Old people drop photographs all the time! And old people like to believe that everybody suffers from the same frailties they do. Q.E.D.

Scynne - 2010-09-11

"From Vivitar, the brand you know and trust, and have, apparently, heard of before."

baleen - 2010-09-11

Robert C. doesn't want to look at some fuckin jap screen.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-09-11

grep - 2010-09-12

Enjoy them.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-12-18

Seo Duit.

boner - 2010-09-12

Thanks to cameras like this, my childhood is incredibly blurry, underexposed and red-eyed.

Kumquatxop - 2010-09-13

Why spend thousands of dollars on a car that's complicated and confusing -- when NOW you can buy the NEW horse and buggy!

pathetique - 2010-09-14

that camera cost nine dollars in 1996
