I was looking for audio of his "9/11 was the greatest work of art in the history of the cosmos" quote to commemorate the day, but I don't think audio of it exists, at least on the internet.
In Germany, they apparently do. Much of what is classified as New German Cinema was heavily subsidized (we're talking 80%) by the FRG. Part of the reason contemporary German artists have a reputation for being batshit insane is because many never really had to worry about the commercial success of their work.
