This game looks about as fun to play as doing your taxes in a small dark tunnel

Squeamish - 2010-09-20

Then you've obviously never played it high.

baleen - 2010-09-20

I've done my taxes high and it wasn't anything like this.

Chalkdust - 2010-09-20

high or not, Tetrisphere is tons of fun and has really good music, but watching a speed run is definitely not the best way to gauge how a game plays

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-09-20

We have unlocked the secrets of the Tacitus!

StanleyPain - 2010-09-20

Tetrisphere was awesome...one of the best N64 games that barely got any attention.
And it wasn't endless...all of the modes were essentially puzzles with specific solutions, though memorizing them would be very aspergian to say the least.

fluffy - 2010-09-20

Yeah, I loved the hell out of this game. And this is time attack mode, but the speedrun nature is causing the time attack to behave rather oddly anyway (usually it advances to the next level after only a portion of the core is revealed).

I usually played it in endless mode though.

Dr. Lobotomy - 2010-09-20

This would have been perfect as a flashy computer hacking sequence in a movie, ZeroCool just hacked the tetrisgibson!

Anyway, what was the face/thing/texture on the surface of the core?

JimL2 - 2010-09-20

Tetris

StanleyPain - 2010-09-21

One of the "robots" from the game. The game had different robot characters in the cutscenes, though they had nothing to do with the gameplay, really.

fluffy - 2010-09-21

I used to chat with a couple of the devs on IRC back when I was all into demoscene crap. Apparently they only added the robots because Nintendo made them so that it would have something "kid-friendly." The tacked-on backstory is that the robots are trapped inside the spheres and you're trying to rescue them.

In retaliation, they added the "vortex" code (enter the name "vortex," then hold down the reset button for about 15 seconds to see the robots get sucked into a black hole), which was also a violation of the N64 TRCs because it could potentially make the console non-destructively crash on reboot (a TRC which Nintendo themselves later failed to abide by in some of their first-tier games).

Also, they were pretty bitter about having to give a credit to Alexy Pajitnov, who had nothing to do with the game aside from letting Nintendo use the "tetris" name on it (which they also didn't want to do).

Scynne - 2010-09-21

You...know a lot, fluffy.

Influence Device TIMR - 2010-09-21

the robots did actually have slightly different stats, but not to any really noticeable degree.

we used to play this game after raves - it was just the thing when you were coming down.

also I have a tetris-related mad russian game designer story but fluffy has stolen all my thunder.

Influence Device TIMR - 2010-09-21

oh yeah five stars

(I still have the soundtrack for this on my mp3 player)

StanleyPain - 2010-09-22

As so I , only I'm disappointed the official soundtrack (and even the rips on the internet) don't have the "hidden" bonus level game boy chiptunes.
