See, if you are going to make scripted "reality" shows, might as well make them fun. That said, i wanted them to start punching the shit out of each other. I am dissapoint.

Rosencrantz - 2010-10-07

Hell’s Kitchen is essentially about throwing a bunch of morons into the deep end and watching them sink.

skip to :50 if you want.

freedoom - 2010-10-07

It is amazing how inept they make everyone look on this show. I don't think i'd want to eat at a restaurant run by any of them.

Rudy - 2010-10-11

Hell’s Kitchen is essentially about throwing a bunch of morons into the deep end and watching them sink so that other morons watching at home can feel better about themselves because they haven't been humiliated publicly on national television.

Frank Rizzo - 2010-10-07

"I'm not no bitch"

so you're a bitch then?

pineapplejuicer - 2010-10-07

new york is a terrible place, mr. rizzo

Frank Rizzo - 2010-10-07

no u

pineapplejuicer - 2010-10-08

no sir, u

Comrade Admiral - 2010-10-08

hahaha you think a double negative produces an affirmative.

Frank Rizzo - 2010-10-08

yes, u

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-10-08

They do, which is why you're not supposed to use them.

Anaxagoras - 2010-10-09

Heh. We got 2 of 'em.

Just so the both of you know: they don't. Language is not a set of logical gates; it's a way of communicating. And when someone uses a double negative, a negative is still communicated.

Also, fart.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-12-24

Your understanding of language is at the same level of a lazy grade-schooler.

Charles - 2010-10-07

The fucking musical effects. I don' need no fuckin musical effects.

Wombles - 2012-01-20

Oh no, the music makes it work.

phalsebob - 2010-10-07

This might be bad for his career, but he had just posted a pic of himself on facebook fucking a roast chicken, so no harm done.

simon666 - 2010-10-07

Ramsay or the jar-head?

La Loco - 2010-10-08

When assholes collide.

Cheese - 2010-10-08

I agree, fuck that bitch.

potvin - 2010-10-08

I understand the fascination with Ramsay (that it's a essentially a freak show) but my industry has a bunch of pieces of shit who think verbal abuse is the same thing as motivating people and it's something we need to discourage - it in no way shape or form brings out the best in people in any industry where talent is involved. On another note, the kind of people that choose a culinary career tend to be like my gay fashion designer cousin who decided on a career change. If you muscle your way to the top of an industry populated with people like that, what does that say about you? The reality show that I really want to see is "Ramsay Goes to Boot Camp."

This loses two stars because of A) the lack of fisticuffs and B) this Marine is a sub-literate troglodyte and can't properly tell anyone off.

Riskbreaker - 2010-10-08

The UK version of the show is not like this, is just that america loves trashy tv, and won't have it any other way, as simple as that.

TheJollyDodger - 2010-10-08

It is so telling of Americans that for his shows to get the play that they do over here, he has to act like a total git. I have worked with him before and his American persona is such a small sliver of the man that it saddens me.

He made a career out of developing talent and telling people the truth. He knows when to "blow up" and when to praise someone and working with him was a pure pleasure as he made sure that he heaped praise on you when you performed and knew he was disappointed with you when you did not. For every "blow up" you heard 10 or 20 "That is what I want to see!" or "Just beautiful".

He positively motivates and drives kitchens forward, something which is very lacking in our world on all levels.

Too bad America has to turn him into a complete git. =(

memedumpster - 2010-10-08

He turns himself into a complete git for money.

Riskbreaker - 2010-10-08

Wouldn't we do the same?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2010-10-08

But we've also seen Kitchen Nightmares, and he can really come across as caring on that show. Even if you watch Hell's kitchen, he manages to be much warmer and more complex than on the commercials.

The thing about Hell's Kitchen is that it's not a restaurant, it's a TV show. I don't watch it often, but it's actually a pretty entertaining idea for a TV show. Ramsay is running two kitchens staffed entirely with new employees, and then they fill both dining rooms at once. They're setting everybody up for disaster, and so disasters happen. People wait an hour for food the arrives overcooked. Once, in season 1, people had waited so long that they ordered a pizza delivery on their cell phone. The conditions are artificially created, but it's not hard to image that the "blow up" to "just beautiful" ratio shifts quite naturally.

"Reality TV" is not "reality". We really need to come up with a less confusing name for the whole fucking genre.

Cat_Mech - 2010-10-08

"Real-time TV" would describe it more aptly; it's contrived scenarios being filmed in real-time, not actual 'reality'.

Anthony Bourdain sums it up fairly well when he stated (I'm paraphrasing) 'Gordon Ramsey is a good friend and an excellent chef, it's really sad to see the network turn him into a cartoon for ratings'.

I can attest to high volume kitchens being stressful; I've cooked in and managed kitchens in some of the highest volume restaurants in North America, but I can't even watch Ramsay's show. It's basically a cartoon with no value. He could be screaming at them about binding books or assembling wheelchairs and it would be just as relevant to the culinary field.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2010-10-08

It's even simpler than that. Brits are pussies.

chumbucket - 2010-10-08

I ain't not no never negatively giving this none no 5 stars

Anaxagoras - 2010-10-08

I want to pinch the cheeks of that young man and tell him how adorable he is.

Syd Midnight - 2010-10-08

Props to the fat guy for summarizing the situation and giving Pyle a chance to back down, I'd give him points for being a good team player.

Ramsey nearly blows it because as a Hard Guy he approaches it as a dominance issue because he doesn't understand a Marines brand of crazy. Like fat guy said, he should have explained it as a self-discipline issue.
