This is a clever satirical jab, undermined only slightly by the fact that the very next episode had Castle and Beckett using a magic laptop computer with instant real time video playback of all cameras in the US. Oh, and it could zoom and enhance.

It's not clever. Clever is when a joke points something out that wasn't obvious, and this has been made fun of in CSI and the like for years. Plus it was handled pretty clumsy.

Castle is an entirely mediocre cop show about a mystery writer who shadows a female detective as part of research for his new series of novels. It's a comedy, which sets it apart from your Law & Orders and CSIs (neither of which I can stand). Nathan Fillion is brilliant, but he's pretty much the only reason I tune in (and Stana Katic is pretty cute, so there's that).
