*ominous chord*

Ridiculous! Gamers never display addictive behavior and subscription game companies have no incentive to encourage it, and even they did there's no reason for the press to report it to the public

IrishWhiskey - 2010-12-17

Thank you television, for warning me against an addictive, unhealthy, manipulative, mind warping, money draining, soul-crushing, life wasting, sex and violence filled form of mass entertainment that isn't television.

memedumpster - 2010-12-17

Brought to you by the Internet! One Tube to rule them all!

Anaxagoras - 2010-12-17

That was actually a pretty good report. Yeah, there was some of the "ominous chord" ridiculousness, but it also looked at evidence for & against the existence of game addiction.

Riskbreaker - 2010-12-17

The evidence looked more like "a couple of lonely guys wasting time in WoW" and didn't move much from there.

Anaxagoras - 2010-12-17

Try watching the program. The evidence was a pattern of behaviour found in 2 countries they looked at (Great Britain & South Korea) that resembled addiction, including extreme manifestations of that behaviour.

But I have a feeling that you already knew that, and are just being a jackass.

When I was a teenager, hysterical authority figures thought we were all worshipping Satan and sacrificing animals, because we fucking ruled.

Chalkdust - 2010-12-17

I liked the smug guy voice they used to read our statement. And the fact they kept using Spitfire by The Prodigy only made me think of the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

Also, the whole replace-one-addiction-with-another thing, i.e. "instead of going to a bar and getting smashed they're playing games WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM???"

Riskbreaker - 2010-12-17

Yep, that's where i stopped watching this and couldn't take seriously any of what i had seen. Great fucking logic their using to deal with this topic.

Adramelech - 2010-12-17

Oh great, this sensationalist nonsense is spreading to other countries.

Five stars for pure ignorant evil.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-12-18

The British and the Americans have always kept pace with each other as far as irresponsible journalism goes.

Jane Error - 2010-12-18

Yeah it's sensationalist, but there are a lot of people out there who are genuinely addicted to gaming to the point that it ruins their lives.

Unsurprisingly, those that break their addictions to gaming usually move onto other kinds of addictions, and I think that's what's being missed here. The problem is addictive *personalities*, not the game.

Old_Zircon - 2010-12-18

So this is why I can play Minecraft for like five hours straight two or three days in a row before I get bored and don't think about it again for 4 month?

Callamon - 2010-12-18

Holy shit that's a cool space marine costume.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-12-18

Old people are still frightened by video games?

Really?

StanleyPain - 2010-12-18

I tried watching this, but then decided to go play a VIDEO GAME!!!
*ominous music*
