I really don't like Terry Gilliam.

cognitivedissonance - 2010-12-25
Burton:Gilliam::Emmerich:Spielberg, although lately Gilliam is ripping off his own rip-off more and more.

I love this.

Are there bees out there? Or does that little girl have Jain parents?

poorwill - 2010-12-25 She's a mosquito keeper. She harvests them for blood.

StanleyPain - 2010-12-25 Have you seen Tideland? Cuz that would answer all your questions.

It's a Reflecting Skin for our times.

I like Gilliam, but I try not to think about Tideland too much. This is not helping.

Fuck this guy. He's just a lame ass Spielberg hating snob. And I never heard of him until poetv started jerking off to him.
poorwill - 2010-12-25 I don't think all of poetv is jacking off to him - this clip is more damning if you *have* heard of him. Gilliam isn't the hack Emmerich is, but he isn't nearly as far away as he'd like to think. I lump him in with try-hards like Del Toro, Burton and Jonze.
cognitivedissonance - 2010-12-26 ^^ this.
If he wasn't involved with the Pythons, nobody would know/care who he is. And even then, he's less popular than ERIC IDLE.
Innocent Bystander - 2010-12-26 Yeah whatever. He made 12 Monkeys which is better than the lives of me, you or any number of people here combined.
Mancakes - 2010-12-26 Any director could have came out with that script, cast, and producer to make a masterpiece. A handful would have probably ended up with a much better product.

How can you people hate Time Bandits? Were you never children, or did your parents force you to recite Howard Zinn essays when you were little?
poorwill - 2010-12-26 No, I liked shitty movies when I was a kid too.
Old_Zircon - 2010-12-26 12 Monkeys was the movie that made me realize he didn't have anything left to say.
Harveyjames - 2015-03-09 He's great. Burton comparisons are apt: His films are rarely good, but he's got such a strong, unique sense of mise en scène that I'm happy for him to keep rolling the dice, even if it never comes up six again.

memedumpster - 2010-12-26
Why is it that once directors have a name for themselves they can't enjoy making a movie unless they douchenozzle all over their peers? I like Gilliam's movies a lot, but what a douche. Heath Ledger must have OD'd to escape.
Hay Belly - 2010-12-27 I'm not well-known enough to state an opinion.
Harveyjames - 2015-03-09 I'm pretty sure he had a million opinions when he wasn't famous, just like we do. Once directors make a name for themselves, people start LISTENING.
Also, defining "derivative" to a kid as "like the films of Roland Emmerich" and then explaining why is not so bad! Nice to assume that pedagogic, fatherly role. Funny to use that role to impart your opinions about other directors, especially ones who are undeservedly successful. It's a funny clip. I have no idea why people have a problem with this.

He's become a fantastic caricature of himself.
