Hell of a lot of build-up for that.

Street Fighter lied to me.

revdrew - 2011-01-03

Should've lured him in and use the hundred hand slap.

BorrowedSolution - 2011-01-03

Somebody reads Cracked. That article was hilarious.

Seanbaby's ALWAYS are. Here's my favorite highlight from this fight:

"For two rounds Remy Bonjasky punched and kicked Akebono as he helplessly shambled in a tiny circle. Chocolate rabbits have more natural defenses than Akebono."

And a runner-up:
"Then, in the third round, Remy landed a head kick. Akebono looked so dead that local restaurant owners panicked. To this day, it's the most violent thing ever done to butter."

I never really do but I did read that article at work because it is totally dead this week. This was by far the most interesting fight he mentioned.

He needed a few more layers of fat around his head.

Six minutes of living in fear of corners.

Remy Bonjansky is a pretty fun name.

a flaming monkey - 2011-01-03

But who would win in a sumo match?

Dr Dim - 2011-01-03

I've never understood K1's passion for seeing guys like Akebono lose. I don't think he ever won a fight. He was the first foreign born sumo yokozuna but he wound up getting beaten up by kickboxers in circus fights to pay his debts, it sucks.

Dr Dim - 2011-01-03

I'm not saying it's wrong to post the video by the way, just that I find it kind of depressing personally.

teethsalad - 2011-01-04

i still think he would have lost - but, 1993 akebono is a lot different from mid 2000's akebono - he'd had a ridiculous amount of injuries by this point, and really shouldn't have been competing. but, yeah, debts.

i remember reading that he got a ton of his savings stolen through some elaborate hotel vault heist back when he was an active sumo wrestler, and apparently he's been trying to claw back ever since. that's why he did these and those "monster bono" pro wrestling things. he sold his "elder stock" which would have allowed him to keep coaching sumo after he retired before any of the k1 or pro wrestling stuff happened.

spikestoyiu - 2011-01-04

It's not really a K-1 thing, but more of a Japanese thing. They do this in MMA, as well.

Dr Dim - 2011-01-04

True, that Giant Silva guy they had in Pride was awful. I have no idea how people could enjoy watching that.

JimL2 - 2011-01-09

the Butterbean fight was great.
