Ugh

dbtng - 2011-01-08

This is so sad. The good die young.

The Faghorn - 2011-01-08

For posterity, she's in 'optimistic' condition at this time.

So don't jinx it, asshole.

dbtng - 2011-01-08

Have you ever known anyone with a brain injury in 'optimistic' condition? Sorry to offend your superstitions with the truth, but she'll never be the same person.

spikestoyiu - 2011-01-08

"Not the same" is still (usually) an improvement over "dead".

That guy - 2011-01-09

Still smarter than Palin.

The Mothership - 2012-05-27

I'd like to point out here that by May 2012 she is doing just fine.

James Woods - 2011-01-08

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Zarathustra00 - 2011-01-08

Now taking all bets. How many days before tea partiers, talk radio hosts, and/or conservative talking heads start hinting at how Rep. Giffords brought this upon herself because of her political beliefs. Correct perfecta and trifecta bets will pay out extra.

Bort - 2011-01-08

"You can't blame anyone else for a lone nut" seems to be the leading argument right now. History will probably prove me wrong, but I am betting that your O'Reillys and Becks are going to do their best to pretend that this never happened, and will not go beyond the proper perfunctory denunciations of this guy.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-01-08

They already are.

Xenocide - 2011-01-08

The media has found his Myspace page.

The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kamf are listed under his favorite books. Also he has long scruffy hair.

As of tomorrow, the narrative will change from "he's just a lone nut" to "he is a typical liberal and also proof that Nazis and Commies are one in the same."

Meerkat - 2011-01-08

One AND the same. GOD DAMN IT. ONE IN THE SAME DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE.

Meerkat - 2011-01-08

(sigh) Never mind, I guess it's a mute point.

Merzbau - 2011-01-08

moot

MOOOOOOOOOOOT

fatatty - 2011-01-09

He also lists Ayn Rand, who isn't exactly a paragon of liberal thought. He also talks about how the government controls society's thoughts and how we need to return to the gold standard.

That kind of scatterbrained schizophrenic thinking comes from one place: Alex Jones.

Cat_Mech - 2011-01-09

Guy is typical U.S. protoright. His listing of Mein Kampf and C. Manifesto is right next to Animal Farm et al, because many people toss things like M.K. into those quizzes as 'hey folks, you should read this to see your enemy'.

It's fairly obvious that the guy was in no way left wing or liberal, but having that argument with an American or the American populace is moot because they live in a fantasy land where words like 'liberal' and 'left-wing' have no connection to what they mean traditionally through history or to the rest of the populace of the fucking planet.

As you might need to toss the Alex Jones card around in the hopes it might distance you from the dickhead doing the shooting, let everyone else remember that Alex Jones and ilk are diehard Christian conservatives and only wear a mask of liberalism when it comes to enabling distrust of the current government (which they do so with the complete confidence that the totalitarian measures used by the government they would dream of replacing it with would be absolutely justified for Jesus).

Newsflash: the right wing is the powerbase for the vast plethora of conspiracy theories; the only only left wingers to really get into that are hippies that eventually become baby boomers and NIMBY moms.

TeenerTot - 2011-01-09

Saw Fox News Sunday. They show a clip of Gifford saying "I'm a former Republican. I'm a Blue dog Democrat."
Looks like they plan to just claim her as their own.

Bort - 2011-01-09

Yeah, I'm not sure he classifies as either left or right, so much as anti-government paranoid.

Riskbreaker - 2011-01-08

NORTH KOREA IS BEST KOR.....

Oh wait, wrong video.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2011-01-08

Well now he can look forward to living the good life for the rest of his life in a supermax. Enjoy the hell of solitary confinement.

Valvados - 2011-01-08

According to a (maybe apocryphal?) story, on the morning of November 22, 1963, JFK made an offhand comment to his Secret Service protection that anyone who wanted to kill a president just needed to get in a tall building with a scoped rifle.

Senator_Unger - 2011-01-08

I'm sure there will be about a week of denunciations from Republican leaders but really, they are pleased as hell their nudge and wink strategy of advocating assassinations is working.

Anaxagoras - 2011-01-08

I doubt that's true for most Republicans. But I also doubt they'll lose much sleep over this either.

FABIO - 2011-01-09

It will be "regretted" the same way the murder of women's clinic doctors are "regretted".

Pillager - 2011-01-09

5 for Fabio.

knowless - 2011-01-08

her head got shot, if she was ok she would not be in a hospital, there is very little leeway when it comes to getting shot in the head. she will not have the capacity to serve.

you take out those who have the highest chance to change. fuck this bullshit.

they will never call it an assassination.

kingarthur - 2011-01-09

The right-wing spin machine is already starting up on this one. So far, its "a lone nut is a lone nut" which is slowly turning into "conservatives never assasinated anybody!" which will turn into "she deserved it" by Tuesday morning.

FABIO - 2011-01-09

FREEP was pulling out the "she deserved it" line just hours afterward.

MagickPoultry - 2011-01-09

Also a couple are quoting the verse from Revelation where one of the Beast's heads is fatally wounded but survives.
