high-fiving my adolescent self

Dad is a fucking douche, she JUST STARTED her shower and there's a toilet downstairs anyway.

TinManic - 2011-01-11

I wish my bathroom was that clean. Except spiders. I don't have killer spiders.

Also, the night i watched this with my parents was also the first time I ever beat a video game! It was Bugs Bunny's Birthday Bash. I rented it National Home Video (Blockbuster not having raped the shit out of all the local rental places yet).

Arachnophobia and I go way back.

Hooker - 2011-01-11

I was eight when this movie came out. I remember the ad campaign used testimonials of people who had just seen the movie, and they all commented on how it was the scariest movie they had ever seen, so I was pretty eager to see it. When I finally did, it was one of the lamest things I'd ever seen, and I was the kind of kid that got nightmares from Friday the 13th movies.

I think I took a major step towards being skeptical of anything anyone ever says as a result of this movie and its marketing. So thank you, Arachnophobia, for helping make me the cynical jerk that I am today.

Maybe if you had genuine arachnophobia it would have freaked you out. In any case, I think each generation is getting more and more desensitised to horror and violence. My 5 and 6 year old nephew and niece watched one of the Scream movies recently and thought it was hilarious.

Or maybe they were just trying to play on the gullability of people who have the mind of an eight-year-old Hooker.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-01-11

My ex-girlfriend said that this movie really "traumatized" her, and I imagine she would picture me as Jeff Daniels during sex shooting a nailgun at burning spiders.

a flaming monkey - 2011-01-14

most people I've asked did film this film scary. I saw it back in the 90s at some point and it spooked me. I hate spiders goddamit.

FABIO - 2011-01-11

She's middle aged now =(

An even more depressing fact: my parents wouldn't let me see this when it came out so I read the novel adaptation =(

CJH - 2011-01-11

You can't make a book out of Arachnophobia. How could words alone describe the jaunty sax solo that accompanies John Goodman everywhere?

NewHeavenSalesman - 2011-01-11

Holy shit, I read that book too.

To answer your question, CJH, they tried to compensate by adding the perspective of the spider queen during certain scenes, which read like it was lifted verbatim from some "diary of a madman" text.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-01-11

This scene contains both the luckiest spider in the world and the unluckiest spider in the world.
