The Mothership - 2011-02-13

And the countdown continues.

PlushJake - 2011-02-13

CDs piss me off. They were publicized as indestructible. But man, you put em in the jacket that holds a gang load, and just the friction from sliding them against that cotton ruins em. Make mine vinyl.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2011-02-13

It's all on my hard drive.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2011-02-13

It's true, by the way. The "indestructable CD" was one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on the public. Another reason why the music industry completely deserved what happened next.

Mother Lumper - 2011-02-13

The chief frailty of compact discs is a thing called disc rot where the foil layer is literally evaporating into nothing thanks to crappy manufacturing. DVD and Blu-Ray will invariably suffer from this as well. I won't be happy until we start using solid state cartridges as a data medium again.

Old_Zircon - 2011-02-13

CDs are a lot more fragile than records, ironically.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2011-02-13

So, Capacitance Electronic Discs will make a comeback?

Bring the magic home!

Desidiosus - 2011-02-13

Holy shit! I may have to get rid of my 8-tracks someday!

Koda Maja - 2011-02-13

I'll stick to wax cylinders, thank you.

VoilaIntruder - 2011-02-13

Later, the CDs reign as the industry standard format was toppled by HitClips, whose grip on the music industry shows no sign of weakening.

phalsebob - 2011-02-13

Ever since some point in the past that is somehow related to the topic, things have changed, and continue to change, but after this change, there may or may not be more change.

fluffy - 2011-02-13

Yes. Also, generously you could say that CDs *were* the last link in the evolutionary chain from the wax-cylinder phonograph. The switch from linearly-read spinning media to random-access fungible data storage was more of a sidestep into a parallel niche.

(Or you could just be really generous and say that by "last" he meant "latest" rather than "final.")

Senator_Unger - 2011-02-13

"What may or may not be the wave of the future." Thanks for waffling there, Casey.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2011-02-13

By definition, there is no such thing as "may" without "may not", so I'd call that more a redundancy than a waffle.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2011-02-13

The man with the golden voice.

Maggot Brain - 2011-02-13

When it comes to physical audio-only media I'll stick to Reel-to-Reel.

boner - 2011-02-13

You're SUPPOSED to hear pops and scratches and that shit, Poe Television, and I don't call it Poe TV because TV is a nickname and nicknames are for friends and TV is no friend of mine.

chairsforcheap - 2011-02-13

is it a dat player?

catpenis27 - 2011-02-14

I was going to come up with something witty to show my love for Mr. Show, but I couldn't come up with anything other than "Keep the CHANJ."
