It's true. My parents did help me "hook it up."

I'm so ashamed.

Though it is a dead link, to be fair.

The announcer at the end sounds incredibly sadistic.

God damn, I have some good memories of the first three Zeldas.

Comatose2 - 2011-02-23

Memories of playing the first Zelda in my friend's basement on an old-school tube TV from back in the day when TVs were acutal pieces of furniture. We needed to short across the terminals with a screwdriver to get it to turn on. I got electrocuted more times than I can remember for the sake of this game.

Once it finally turned on (usually after about 5 attempts) with an ominous "zzzzzt*CLICK!..czssshh", it gave a permanent green tint to everything. It had serious phosphor burn-in of Zelda stuff (hearts, score etc) in the corners, and when finally turned off after an entire afernoon of gaming, you got to watch a mysterious green glow slowly recede into a small dot in the center of the screen over a period of about 20 minutes.

I'm pretty sure that if I get cancer it will be because of Zelda.

Did anyone else get the version of Zelda where the title screen says "Legend of Zelda sold separately?"

When you press start, it turns into Excitebike. Miyamoto was still going through his artistic phase at the time.

They captured the perfect slow-down speed you would experience in dungeon 7 (or 8?) or any time more than 10 enemy sprites were on the screen at once.

That's PCP. Angel Dust. Ashy Larry.

Spit Spingola - 2011-02-24

It almost sounded like a Residents song at one point.
