I just can't wait 'til that last tag is activated!

Pillager - 2011-03-11

I read that as 'talking mad shits'.

spikestoyiu - 2011-03-11

Either works.

Xenocide - 2011-03-10

Man, it sure sucks to have to live in a society of laws, huh.

Zarathustra00 - 2011-03-10

Regulation of product quality adds extra cost to a product, both in tightening tolerances to meet the regulations and in the paperwork and personnel used to check compliance. In return, consumers have a reasonable expectation that their products will be safe, standardized, and functional.

I guess we could always do it the other way around and let every purchase be a game of Russian roulette. Every company that sells sub par or dangerous products would eventually succumb to the invisible hand of the free market. Of course, this would be after the first wave of customers had to double buy a product because the first one was crap or, in the case of some products, they were injured/killed by a product that was made poorly.

tl;dr As someone who was born in KY and lived there until after college, the sight of Rand Paul evokes an acute degree of hate and disgust.

phalsebob - 2011-03-10

The invisible hand of the market would eventually force companies marketing substandard goods to change their name and marketing strategy!

jangbones - 2011-03-10

Rand Paul is crazy. He lives in a fantasy world. Also, his public stance on some issues have changed 180 degrees in a year and a half.

There are four or five state in the union, tops, where Mr. Makebelieve here could have gotten elected and Kentucky is one of them.

Smellvin - 2011-03-10

"Also, his public stance on some issues have changed 180 degrees in a year and a half."

Such as?

Also "workhorse of a toilet" is definitely a good phrase.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-03-10

His biggest flip-flop was taking a stance that he'd ban earmarks while he was campaigning, then after he got into office, he announced he'd fight for earmarks for his state and KY's 'fair share' of pork.

jangbones - 2011-03-11

Slate or Salon wrote a great article about how the Tea Party totally warped Rand Paul...how he sold out his most fervent beliefs for party support...but damned if I can find it

Mother_Puncher - 2011-03-10

If women can have abortions, I can have sex with a toilet.

BorrowedSolution - 2011-03-10

If women can't get a legal abortion, then they need a heavy-duty toilet to deal with any of Daddy's little mistakes.

That guy - 2011-04-07

If some toilets can't handle some turds.....
then libertarianism is the only answer, you fools!!!

FABIO - 2011-03-10

Holy shit. What is it with incandescent bulbs? Every conservative relative I know just will not shut up about how the ban is some commie plot.

Something about how it's to favor China because they're the only place on Earth that can make them? Poor underdog GE just can't muster it?

What the fuck?

Chalkdust - 2011-03-11

Conservatives hate florescent bulbs because the amount of energy they save translates to several billions of dollars in lost profits for the energy industry. My only source for this at the moment is part of a Rachel Maddow segment I can't find, but that's the long and short of it.

Plus, conservatives don't really give a shit about US jobs going overseas, that much should be clear at this point.

Bort - 2011-03-11

It's all about privilege: the notion that their way of life may not be sustainable makes them mad, so they fight tooth and nail to keep it, even the parts that don't make sense.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-03-11

Whatever rational (if self-interested or philosophically misguided) opposition the American conservative movement had to specific environmental regulatory proposals has now morphed into a blind and unthinking opposition to environmental protection, including that which directly threatens human life.

It was fueled in part by evangelicals saying "We don't need to care for the Earth because God has promised to protect it/God has promised to end it soon so there's no point" and people like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck suggesting that all scientists (except those working for Exxon) are part of a global conspiracy with lesbians and Al Gore, and that its impossible for people to hurt themselves through the environment.

Rudy - 2011-03-11

"Why can't you come here and try to convince me to conserve energy so I can ignore you in favor of owning a supertoilet? Is it because you want to kill babies?"

This man is a genius.

spikestoyiu - 2011-03-11

The part that confuses me most about this, besides the declaration that abortions are a "consumer item/good", is how do they keep breaking toilets in the Paul household? Are they using triple-ply toilet paper? Are they shitting whole turkeys? I don't get it. I have a cheap, low-flow toilet and it's never broken on me.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2011-03-11

You just don't understand the normal, hearty, all-American shits of the common man

Robin Kestrel - 2011-03-12

All these crazy "rules" and "notions", like about who can call themselves a doctor and who can't... who needs em?

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-03-12

I love his aides. They probably have access to this kind of goofy insanity all day.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2011-03-12

Bulbed!

Johnny Madhouse - 2011-03-16

GOOD GOD

How can one man talk so much?

Big Muddy - 2011-03-18

He has me so rattled, so very fucking affronted I can't even think of the feeling. Oh yes, alienation. The alienation of knowing this is what my state wants to represent so badly in the face of political redundancy on all fronts.

Nominal - 2022-12-09

11 years and one Trump later, this remains the dumbest thing I've ever heard a Republican say.

Holy fuck, I also never realized this was from his official channel. He is PROUD of this! There are comments PRAISING him for this!
