but that one's down, so 5 for two doses of evil I guess.

Holy shit all my hate.

Nothing really pisses me off like this because it's racism under the guise of patriotism with a strictly religious agenda from a religion that is no more violent or misogynist than the one they are protesting.

Over in Murfreesboro, there was a big protest about an Islamic community center being built because the old one was too small. Zoning laws and funding weren't a problem; they were just told "no". There was a protest like this but way bigger and moving. I thought about going there with some friends and getting some people to march with them carrying signs with bizarre/conflicting/mismatched messages but totally typical of the group like "Austin 3:16", "Extend Bush Era Tax Cuts", "Speak English or Die" or "Obey the Constitution/Listen to AM Radio"

Most political movements follow the basic rule of thumb where the level of bullshit is proportional to how many flags its members feel they need to wave around.

dbtng - 2011-03-16

I know that for many in the crowd, racism may be a real factor, but give the protesters credit for believing their own signs and spokespeople. Many of them really do hate/fear Islam itself, or at least their conception of it. There are obviously religious zealots in the crowd, but the hate propaganda can be subtle and attractive to thinking folks as well. The questions are said to be about basic human rights injustices and violence inherent within Islam. Intellectuals are suckers for that sort of thing. If you listen to them and read their signs, it seems that the motivations of the crowd may be more complex than you propose.

RomancingTrain - 2011-03-16

Yeah, give them credit, they may not be racists. . . they're just this other type of vile bigot. They are yelling at children and mothers at an pro-women's rights event, you don't need to bend over backwards to defend them. It's cool to try and understand their motivations(that's really the only way to stop these actions) and nothing can justify what they're doing.

Mother_Puncher - 2011-03-16

I doubt it. They seem to just be outright racist shits. These people weren't on a street corner preaching Sharia law and they had kids. Sharia law isn't a threat in the least to America so I see no point in screaming at innocent people. Muslim women choose to do wear the clothes and act the way they do in America because it's part of the religion they choose to be a part of. Christians don't understand that because they still believe in good and evil. This whole protest is "stop doing things I don't like." Europe gets it bad because they have a pretty extreme population. When we get Muslims complaining about dog photos in the paper, I assume we will handle it the same way we handle Christians complaining about Satanic music.

Hay Belly - 2011-03-17

You'd look at the Muslim womens' dress and headscarf etc. differently if you realized all women in American society have limits put on them as to how they can dress in public because of men. What's so different about women not being able to go shirtless and braless and women having to cover their hair? Do you think all women in America choose to cover themselves in public and agree that they should be arrested if they try to live the same as American men?

"choose" hahahahaha

"One nation under God, not Allah!"
So much stupid.
Im surprised I sat through all of this.

I'm really glad she doesn't mind if we call her crazy anymore.
