I've worked with a bunch of wannabe actors and anchors. Only the most very desperate and soulless of them ever end up thinking about joining Fox news.

Canada is getting the Sun News Network, the first Canadian 24-hour news network, which is slated to be conservative/right-leaning and which has already been dubbed "Fox News North". Up here it's illegal to pass off lies as "news", unlike in the U.S., but there are fears that SNN will consistently push this boundary to test its limits and see how much it can get away with. It launches April 18th. I don't think it will be a part of any basic cable packages, but I don't know exactly how it will be bundled.

I have family in the southern states who feel that "Fox" is merely a synonym for "news"; they watch no other news channels or programs. They haven't heard of the Daily Show. They can't comprehend the debate going on up here about the legality of lying on a news program, and simply aren't aware of any allegations or falsehoods or half-truths on Fox. They are very, very sweet people, and I love them to pieces, but in this respect they exhibit the sort of brainwashed ignorance that you'd expect from North Korea or something. It is equal portions frightening and depressing. My only comfort is that not a one of them votes.

He says that Fox News claims they didn't send people out on a trip because they would be used as human shields and propaganda tools, but they actually did send a rookie out to take photos in their stead and are just motivated by laziness. Was that somehow not clear?

The Fox correspondent and cameraman sat in their hotel, probably doing body shots off each other while they sent a rookie out to do their work for them. I'd get pretty pissed off if I was the CNN guy too.

MSNBC is certainly not the left-wing equivalent of Fox News.

I still can't believe how wildly successful that strategy has been: create an out of control misinformation machine known for outright lies that support the Republican party so that whenever something legitimate comes up that supports the "other" side, it can be dismissed as "the left equivalent of Fox news" all in a warped sense of fairness and objectivity.

Both networks cherry pick their information, both use logical fallacies to making their points, both networks use mockery toward the party they oppose. Fox News angers their viewers by telling them how Democrats are destroying America and scares their viewers with what might happen if Democrats take control. MSNBC angers their viewers by telling them how Republicans are destroying America and scares their viewers with what might happen if Republicans take control.

A country's population, caught in a friend-or-foe political dichotomy, with fear and anger in their hearts, will refuse to cooperate with each other even when it's in their own best interest. When that happens the only possible path is backwards.
