der fuck is wrong with this thing?

IrishWhiskey - 2011-03-22

Question: Did Fox rely on liars, or did they lie to gain a manipulative advantage and twist the far-right narrative?

Answer: It doesn't matter.

kingarthur - 2011-03-22

Is anyone keeping a running tally of the number of times Fox News has been caught in a lie? I'm sure it's somewhere on Media Matters.

CharlesSmith - 2011-03-22

Humans only have names for so many of the numbers. At this point it's impossible to express the number as a word, it's just a series of digits without a name.

TimidAres - 2011-03-22

googol.

hornung - 2011-03-22

The set theory symbol refers to a set having the same cardinal number as the "small" infinite set of integers. The symbol is often pronounced "aleph-null" rather than "aleph-zero," probably because Null is the word for "zero" in Georg Cantor's native language of German. It is sometimes also pronounced "aleph-zero" or "aleph-naught," the latter of which is also spelled "aleph-nought."

I posted this because I was baffled by the fact this is the first time the media so openly criticize Fox news. For anyone living in Canada, Fox has always been utter tabloid crap. I dont know the perception in the states but from around here its ludicrous.

TimidAres - 2011-03-22

Lots of folks take it pretty seriously around here, my family included.

Rudy - 2011-03-22

Probably because most reporters secretly hope to join Fox someday. I heard they pay pretty well....

FABIO - 2011-03-22

I've worked with a bunch of wannabe actors and anchors. Only the most very desperate and soulless of them ever end up thinking about joining Fox news.

Canada is getting the Sun News Network, the first Canadian 24-hour news network, which is slated to be conservative/right-leaning and which has already been dubbed "Fox News North". Up here it's illegal to pass off lies as "news", unlike in the U.S., but there are fears that SNN will consistently push this boundary to test its limits and see how much it can get away with. It launches April 18th. I don't think it will be a part of any basic cable packages, but I don't know exactly how it will be bundled.

I have family in the southern states who feel that "Fox" is merely a synonym for "news"; they watch no other news channels or programs. They haven't heard of the Daily Show. They can't comprehend the debate going on up here about the legality of lying on a news program, and simply aren't aware of any allegations or falsehoods or half-truths on Fox. They are very, very sweet people, and I love them to pieces, but in this respect they exhibit the sort of brainwashed ignorance that you'd expect from North Korea or something. It is equal portions frightening and depressing. My only comfort is that not a one of them votes.

urbanelf - 2011-03-22

If my dad is watching the news it's almost always Fox.

MrBuddy - 2011-03-22

You know I watched this video on another site, expecting something significant from it. MSMBC and Fox News are in the business of scaring people and getting them pissed off to keep them watching, so I expected the truth to be elasticized. But mostly what he does is say there's deception and hypocrisy without being clear on what he means. He just keeps repeating it over and over as if believes if he says it enough times it will become true.

I can't blame Wolf Blitzer though, who was probably thinking if this guy was challenged, he's so mad, he'd jump through the monitor and strangle him.

jangbones - 2011-03-22

I am not challenging your point but I will say that it is a little incoherent.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-03-22

He says that Fox News claims they didn't send people out on a trip because they would be used as human shields and propaganda tools, but they actually did send a rookie out to take photos in their stead and are just motivated by laziness. Was that somehow not clear?

Desidiosus - 2011-03-22

The Fox correspondent and cameraman sat in their hotel, probably doing body shots off each other while they sent a rookie out to do their work for them. I'd get pretty pissed off if I was the CNN guy too.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-03-22

MSNBC is certainly not the left-wing equivalent of Fox News.

There isn't one.

FABIO - 2011-03-22

I still can't believe how wildly successful that strategy has been: create an out of control misinformation machine known for outright lies that support the Republican party so that whenever something legitimate comes up that supports the "other" side, it can be dismissed as "the left equivalent of Fox news" all in a warped sense of fairness and objectivity.

jangbones - 2011-03-22

the gulf between msnbc and fox is enormous

MrBuddy - 2011-03-24

Both networks cherry pick their information, both use logical fallacies to making their points, both networks use mockery toward the party they oppose. Fox News angers their viewers by telling them how Democrats are destroying America and scares their viewers with what might happen if Democrats take control. MSNBC angers their viewers by telling them how Republicans are destroying America and scares their viewers with what might happen if Republicans take control.

A country's population, caught in a friend-or-foe political dichotomy, with fear and anger in their hearts, will refuse to cooperate with each other even when it's in their own best interest. When that happens the only possible path is backwards.

Anaxagoras - 2011-03-22

He mad.
