Wait so Megyn Kelly's stand-in is another constipated looking blond woman? I'm shocked.

And I would love to see the Public Religion Research Institute's sampling methods. They were probably standing outside Baptist churches in Alabama.

As IrishWhiskey says below, it's interesting that a *majority* of a survey respondents claimed this to be evidence not of God's work but of global climate change. It's also important to note that--surprise--the results reported are completely out of context. The survey never asked questions about the Japan tsunami being from God. They asked whether or not some natural disasters are a sign from God. This is a much more general question.

The methodology appears to be fairly standard, at least as they report it so I'm willing to believe that many Americans believe God sends us natural disasters. A similar number also believe the planet was created 6000 years ago.

I highly recommend that everyone follow that link and check out the actual results of the survey after you see Fox's butchering of it. Cognitive dissonance indeed.

Also check out some of their other polls. Almost every one of them has a section presenting the results, and then a special section for the results from evangelicals and conservatives because they differ wildly from everyone else.

fatatty - 2011-03-25

Wait....That's not Megyn Kelly? I really thought that was her.

They must have some sort of secret facility pumping out talking point spewing semi-hot blonde clones.

fourthguy - 2011-03-25

All female conservative talking heads are constipated-looking blond women.

pastorofmuppets - 2011-03-26

"Most Americans... resist drawing a straight line from those beliefs to God's direct role or judgment in natural disasters."

And then the guy responsible tried to make that point and they steamrolled him. Oh, Fox.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-03-25

I'm not skeptical as to the finding. 38% is the most common number describing support for the Tea Party, George W Bush, and Palin during the election.

The reports conclusions are that people say they believe in God's complete control, but don't like to actually think of him as a sociopathic murderer, and that,
"Americans are more likely to attribute the increased severity of natural disasters to global climate change than to signs of apocalyptic biblical prophecy."

Cognitive, meet Dissonance.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-03-25

sup

jangbones - 2011-03-25

Do Tea Partiers know that 38 percent is not a majority?

If so, why do they keep acting like it is?

It's POETV's favorite phrase!

Does anyone else ever feel like they're the only sober person on board, but no one will let you drive?

kingarthur - 2011-03-25

Oh yes, James Woods. You have no idea.

takewithfood - 2011-03-25

Goddamnit, I thought she said Lorne Greene. Between 0:15 and 0:18 I so wanted to believe that Fox News had resurrected him.

Bort - 2013-08-07

38% -- that's 97% for you and me.

Desidiosus - 2011-03-25

I would imagine Fox's core audience would get angry that only 38% feel the same way they do.

kingarthur - 2011-03-25

Five stars of stupid evil for the pre-load image alone. I didn't even watch the video.

CornOnTheCabre - 2011-03-25

Sign of what? How Japan is way better at handling natural disasters than America is?

Sick burn, God.

phalsebob - 2011-03-26

USE FUCKING ADJECTIVES YOU FUCKS!

dead_cat - 2011-03-26

Yes, it's very interesting that you decided to do a report on how nearly 40% of Americans are fucking retards over a report on actual news.

Mostly Pi - 2011-03-26

In these tough economic times, it's important for every American to do what they can to cut costs. For example, rather than pouring money in the production of satirical fake newspapers and television programs, why not just turn the good old reality you have just lying around into a fucking farce?
