A quality title, but I'd go for Left Behind II: Apocalyptic Boogaloo.

Why are they trying to stop the biblical prophecy? Isn't that what they want to happen? Is God the bad guy then?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-04-07

I've always wondered that. Christians seem to have this oddball "we want Jesus to come back" thing going on, yet they oppose anything that could be even vaguely seen as 'fulfilling prophecy' except when it comes to other countries getting bombed or something.

Over on the Slacktivist blog (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/), every Friday they analyze a handful of pages of this series in excruciating detail. And man, I'm glad I don't have to read the books, because I don't think I could take more than a paragraph at a time.

But one recurring theme is how the alleged heroes of these books don't actually do anything. They manage to work their way into the Antichrist's inner circle and ... do whatever the Antichrist wants. They don't express any angst over their inability to change that which was preordained before the earth was new, they simply don't even try. Their acts of "rebellion" consist of little more than harboring bad opinions about the Antichrist.

Thing is, I don't think the authors intend this to be a standing commentary on Good Men Doing Nothing; I get the feeling the authors genuinely think their characters are the Good Guys. That said, I'd be very interested in a twist ending, where our author avatars Rayford Steele (greatest pilot ever) and Buck Williams (greatest reporter ever) stand before St. Peter:

"Rayford, do I understand that you knew of the Antichrist's plan to bomb San Francisco, and not only didn't you crash the plane to stop him, you didn't even make any effort to warn anyone? Not a single soul?"

"Well you see, I needed to be sure that"

"Eternal damnation for you! Now Buck, why did you make no effort to warn anyone about the Antichrist? As the most influential single media figure on earth, you could have gone a long way to turn public opinion against the Antichrist."

"Well there was one time I printed a bunch of documents and drove around with them, but I was waiting to"

"Eternal damnation for you too!"

The subtle hint is that to be "Right behind" would be to immediately follow, but "Left behind" is a sad place to be. Damned lefties.
