It's a really good movie, one of Scorsese's best. Obviously it offends hard-line Christians (mostly Catholics), but the irony is that it's probably one of the best, most effective and moving films based on the Gospel stories ever made, probably because of how the characters are realistic and natural.
Answer: Yes. Too many positives. I'm not sure where it stands in Scorcese's work, but it's still Scorcese. As if that weren't enough, you've got Dafoe, Keitel, Bowie...not to mention a Peter Gabriel soundtrack. About two hundred times more worthwhile than 'The Passion of the Christ'.
Probably the only movie that ever made me empathize with Jesus. And one that portrays things in a way that really makes you feel the doubt people would have for a person like this. He feels like a human.
