Roll call: who here was a ZZTer? I used to be quite the boy around town in that gang!

StanleyPain - 2011-04-25

I never played the original ZZT games, but I built a game with the engine and played a lot of the other user-made games.

Old_Zircon - 2011-04-25

I still have at least 10 games I made with this thing in middle school. I never really got serious about programming, but learning ZZT-OOP in 6th grade definitely made it easier to pick up the basics of real object oriented programming in college.

Old_Zircon - 2011-04-25

I actually STILL play it every few years, but I haven't made a game since maybe 1990.

I played the SHIT out of Yoshi's Road Apple and a bunch of shitty school shooting games. I don't recall ever playing a game that looked this good.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2011-04-26

"Code Red" was still one of the best games ever made period. Gave me more hours per play per dollar. I was in the Commune but was never really big. Confession: I never played Kudzu all the way through... :(

Did a lot of ZZT playing and game design back in the day... sadly, disk corruption took care of all that...

how's it hangin ryo

freedoom - 2011-04-25

Can't say i remember this game. Have stars anyway!

Burnov - 2011-04-25

Former ZZT'er, made many unfinished "masterpieces" in my day.

And yes, very much agreed, one of the best creativity programs ever made.

Old_Zircon - 2011-04-25

Wasn't it the first game to be released with a level editor? Or did Bard's Tale Construction Set come first?

StanleyPain - 2011-04-25

BTCS I think did come first, as did the TSR engine one (Adventure Creation Kit? I think?), but ZZT allowed for way more complexity to your games than either of those.
