I remember when these were popular. One day, someone asked how wood beats water, and the resulting existential crisis lead to Battle Beasts being banned from our school.

True story.

Xenocide - 2011-05-11

They show you right there in the commercial! If you chop down a tree, the log will make a splash, and that...kills water.

GravidWithHate - 2011-05-11

Photosynthesis.

Read a book!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-05-11

Rock-paper-scissors makes the same amount of nonsense. From the philosopher Demetri Martin:

"I like rock, paper, scissors -- two-thirds. Rock breaks scissors: these scissors are bent, they're destroyed, I can't cut stuff -- I lose. Scissor cuts paper: this is strips, this is not even paper, this can take me forever to put this back together -- you got me.

Paper covers rock: rock is fine, no structural damage to rock. Rock can break through paper at any point, just say the word.

Paper sucks. It should be rock, dynamite with a cuttable wick, scissors."

Bort - 2011-05-12

Rock CAN punch through paper, but doesn't feel like it should have to.

Smellvin - 2011-05-11

Did anyone else misread the title as "Battle Breasts"? My expectations were a bit overinflated.

The Mothership - 2011-05-11

I totally had a couple of these. They were for people who needed to play rock, paper scissors with action figures.

pastorofmuppets - 2011-05-12

Can't the same be said of Starcraft?

gmol - 2011-05-11

I find it profound that somewhere I have devoted brain cells devoted to the memory of these.

Nice to see that the Predacons could find more work...

tenten - 2011-05-12

Probably the brain cells that used to prevent redundancy.

Bort - 2011-05-11

0:22 "I got fire!" "I got water!" These guys missed a perfect opportunity to amuse my inner 12-year-old.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-05-11

Well, 'wood' is going into someplace that's wet...

Modern Angel - 2011-05-11

I was obsessed with these damned things when I was 11 but never played rock paper scissors with them. They were just cool figures.

spikestoyiu - 2011-05-11

I had these. And a few other toys with holograms on them, which I suppose were a THING at the time.

Old_Zircon - 2011-05-12

Liquid crystal.

A friend of mine had some of these.

StanleyPain - 2011-05-11

I had one of those Visioneers toys with the hologram as well as a Secret Wars Doctor Doom with holographic face!! Yeah, it was a thing at the time.

spikestoyiu - 2011-05-12

Visioneers. Once every 3-4 years, they'll randomly pop into my head and I'll go crazy trying to remember the name of them.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2011-05-12

I hate to say it, but I think you're both wrong. If you mean the action figures with the holograms (usually) on staffs they carried, those were "Visionaries."

Remember the theme song? "Visionaires, knights of the magical light! Visionaries, with magical powers they fight" and so on.

spikestoyiu - 2011-05-12

If I'm guilty of anything, it's not Googling. And also believing StanleyPain.

However, it looks like I was actually thinking of Supernaturals, specifically this guy:

NewHeavenSalesman - 2011-05-11

I still have a pretty massive collection of these laying around somewhere (along with the pretty awesome ram attack vehicle thing that chomped when you rolled it around). The holograms came off in a stiff breeze.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-11

Because making toys fight each other is fun, but its even MORE fun if rubbing a sticker tells you which toy will automatically win, making the whole thing pointless.

garcet71283 - 2011-05-12

Maybe I was a weird kid, but basically me and my friends would do something like this with our action figures and transformers.

We used the moss around the yard as resources.

pastorofmuppets - 2011-05-12

Yeah, but nobody had this. Nobody wanted it, either.

Bisekrankas - 2011-05-12

First Space Ace, and now this, its like "my childhood obsessions"-week

gambol - 2012-04-24
