I'd swear my cats were dumb creatures if they didn't all figure out how to work the door handle to the crawl space to get in an out of the house at their leisure.
I also couldn't get one of them to come back into the house because they wouldn't respond to their own name. But damned if he wouldn't come running if I called the word "food".
I read somewhere that when cats "talk" to people, the noises they make are not part of the natural cat "language" (which is mostly silent), but rather the sounds they think will best get their message across to the human.
