Sure it's creepy but Steve seems to try to put all the blame on the dad saying he had the problem and that the girl was just being manipulated. This is a pretty common thing on Wilkos' show. One person or party is the troubled one and the other is a victim.
And why the hell would they go on a show just to be ridiculed (because they obviously know what the show is) if they were really in love? I know everytime I get into a relationship that the rest of society would view as taboo, the first thing I'd want to do is go on a basic cable show hosted by the security guard from Springer who has a white hot passion for kicking chairs and parading people with problems around.

18 year olds, despite being across the line in the sand our culture draws to adulthood, really are just children. If you think of the psychological competency and decision making ability of someone 21, 25, 30, etc compared to 18, it is vastly different. She IS responsible yes, but the father was the one with the control and the power to either initiate these encounters or stop them dead in their tracks. So yeah, what a fucking creepo. This whole clip made my skin crawl.

Oh god, I saw bits and pieces of this when it first aired.
It was a two-part episode and everything. They did a pregnancy test in the second part though I didn't watch it long enough to see the results.

I'm starting think that shows such as this are basically a medium by which "social stories", (if you're not familiar you can google the term), can be disseminated to the lowest common denominator in order to discourage negative social behaviors.

Of all the things that I wish we were never allowed to see on television at mark 1:28. Couldn't we be spared the moaning you fuckers? This also relates to some armchair psychology I learned straight from POE about the phenomenon of immediate sexual attraction between estranged siblings. Was this also the the case with the parents, or is this just a perfect example?
If POEred had the latter judgement to just scour myspace for exhibits I doubt it would have declined at all.
