This film was made before the internet allowed this behavior to become much more widespread.

It doesn't matter how many people do it, and it doesn't matter if the obsession is Star Trek or arguing on the internet or Harry Potter or anime or baseball or fur or what-ever-the-fuck you do. This behavior is still a laughable waste of time, and these people are still pathetic for dedicating this much thought, time, and effort towards something that matters so little.

it's just self expression. laughing at them and wondering about their sanity is fine enough but who's to say what you do every day is somehow morally better than what they do ?

jangbones - 2011-05-30

I am.

Learning Klingon and making fleet officer costumes is pathetic.

Fuck you.

So, basically, finding hobbies you enjoy in life and spending time on them is pathetic? What a healthy attitude. I would ask for a list of jangbones approved activities, but really no-one cares, including all those people in the video.

christ your rationalizations are just as pathetic

I also recommend "A Galaxy Far, Far Away" which is a documentary about the people waiting in line for the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace premiere. It's not a very good film at all, but the subject matter makes it worthwhile. It might have just been a privately circulated VHS release, too, 'm not entirely sure. My copy is very obviously homemade.

When I saw this one on cable, my reaction was a mix of "I hate these people" and "I am these people." I wouldn't be surprised if much of the POETV/POEN crowd reacted more or less the same way.

I'm glad that these folks have something they enjoy and are passionate about -- even if they do act kind of silly.

Funny story. Gabe Koerner, the blond lisping kid with the enabling dad is now a digital effects artist for film and television. A few years ago my friends and I decided we were going to make a movie, as professionally as possible on a limited budget. The script called for a single effects shot lasting a maximum of 30 seconds. At the time I had found Gabe on Myspace and friended him because that's how Myspace works. He posted an update saying work was sparse and he was desperate so if anyone had any freelance work he would like to know. So I contacted him. He talked to the exec-producer/director and they hammered out a deal. 00 up front, and 00 when it's complete.
8 months later he had sent us ONE FRAME that he probably just mocked up with Photoshop. Meanwhile, his public updates were swirling with stories of parties, drugs and debauchery. One of his updates told the story of how "someone" walked into his house when he was gone (he left the door unlocked... right) and stole a bunch of film equipment he was borrowing from a friend.
We ended up telling him to fuck off and hired a local student to do the job. He did it in about 2 weeks.

Fuck Gabe Koerner.

As a Star Trek fan, I found the best way to destroy everyone who looks down on it was to introduce them to Doctor Who, which apparently Star Trek for those other nerds. Now I can point out every single instance of ravenous nerdocity they enact as if they were blindly unaware that I was once the devil in their eyes.

I never liked Star Trek but I am an admitted Dwarfer.

So did Data's stalker eventually kill him and make a Starfleet uniform out of his skin or what?

I would reccomend "KISS loves You" as well!
