I can understand why they're protesting, and once the cops start cuffing people the ones who continue dancing do so with intent to be arrested. Trying to bring more attention to their cause. What pisses me off is how in the process of being arrested they resist then start crying "police brutality" when the cop has to wrestle them down.
Also Past Bot, The arrest was explained and these people knew they were doing an illegal protest so they knew what was coming.
Frankly I wouldn't mind demonstrating to these people the true definition of police brutality.

simon666 - 2011-05-31 My argument first argument is simple: It's ethically wrong for police not to provide the statute (law etc) they claim is being violated when asked by those in alleged violation; it is wrong to use violence as a means of projecting and reinforcing one's authority when that authority is not being challenged with violence (dancing is not violently challenging police authority). I think society on the whole would be better without the behaviors exhibited by the police--questions of "justification" or "legality" aside.
Further, as far as the evidence this video provides, the police are alleging a law pertaining to protesting is in violation, then purposefully interpreting 'dancing' as a protest. This interpretation is questionable in its own right, but even so, I don't think the state has reasonable interest in regulating dancing at monuments. This is definitely an overreach of government authority, one that I'm not going to support. Individual liberty over state interest is what I'm advocating here.
Being a "douche" is not in and of itself a crime and I don't want to live in a society where merely being labeled by a pejorative is justification for state sponsored oppression.
The police, as indicated by their willingness to give a warning in the first place, seem as though they were not committed to arrest and physical force. But if this is the case, why did they not simply escort the people off the property?

Certain types of expression are probably prohibited in a space like the Jefferson memorial (like staging a demonstration). It isn't a a police state, and it is not fascism-- it's just how things are. When a police officer has lawful authority to arrest you-- and you are the type of idiot that resists-- that cop can use reasonable force to restrain you (i.e. a chokeslam or double arm ddt).

I'm going to give my opinion on who's wrong and who's right based on a video clip provided by one side of the conflict.
That said, the protesters seem pretty obnoxious, but at least they totally understand the concept of non-violent resistance.
