I say, we can't dance, we can't dance
Cops are out of control
We can't dance, we can't dance
Now we're kissing the floor

OOHHH OOO OORRR!

Slagathor - 2011-05-30

It's the Jefferson Memorial, you asshole douches, show some respect. Fucking jerks. Do you realize that there's a sign on the Vietnam Memorial telling people not to climb on the thing? These pricks should be ashamed.

misterbuns - 2011-05-31

They should be ashamed! Instead they were just roughed up and arrested.

Where is the justice?!

Tom Collins - 2011-05-31

Arresting them is harsh. They should be Tasered and dragged back to their cars or buses.

Enjoy - 2011-05-30

First they came for my flashmob and I said nothing....

CIWB - 2011-05-31

Everyone in this video is a douchebag. Can't people in general just not be dicks?

namtar - 2011-05-31

I think this video needs a "white people" tag.

Of all the things to protest and demonstrate about, and of all the things to body slam and choke someone over: white people choose these things.

White people, just fucking white people.

Comeuppance - 2011-05-31

This seems staged, somehow.

Cena_mark - 2011-05-31

Cause it is staged. Protesters like this follow a script. Show up, do what the police told us not to, get arrested, cry police brutality.
These protesters would make awesome soccer players the way they exaggerate the force the police had to use.
For God's sake how many times does a cop have to say get on your knees before he can wrestle them down, because he gave him enough chances.

DeathRay19999 - 2011-05-31

die you ridiculous cartoon

Cena_mark - 2011-05-31

I can understand why they're protesting, and once the cops start cuffing people the ones who continue dancing do so with intent to be arrested. Trying to bring more attention to their cause. What pisses me off is how in the process of being arrested they resist then start crying "police brutality" when the cop has to wrestle them down.
Also Past Bot, The arrest was explained and these people knew they were doing an illegal protest so they knew what was coming.
Frankly I wouldn't mind demonstrating to these people the true definition of police brutality.

futurebot - 2011-05-31

haha John Cena got beat by R Truth last night

R TRUTH

Cena_mark - 2011-05-31

I hate when people here don't give me a serious answer, but in this case its because they know I'm right.

TeenerTot - 2011-05-31

I find your post odd considering the protestors are libertarians.

Cena_mark - 2011-05-31

I understand why they're protesting, freedom of speech and all that. I just hate how they act like such big babies about getting arrested.

futurebot - 2011-05-31

dude you aren't even right about John Cena and he's in your fucking name

sjohnson301 - 2011-05-31

They were charged with being douchebags. Punishment: Bodyslam, Choke, and Arrest. I see nothing wrong with police actions here.

simon666 - 2011-05-31

YEAH! FUCK THOSE DOUCHE FAGGOTS! ATTACK AND ARREST PEOPLE I CONSIDER STUPID! I'M WITH YOU SJOHNSON301!!! PREACH IT BRUTHA!!!!!!!

Fart.

Cena_mark - 2011-05-31

Okay Simonsaysalotofstupidshit, how was the arrest unjust, and where was the police brutality?

spikestoyiu - 2011-05-31

Watch out, guys, he has a 666 in his username!!

simon666 - 2011-05-31

My argument first argument is simple: It's ethically wrong for police not to provide the statute (law etc) they claim is being violated when asked by those in alleged violation; it is wrong to use violence as a means of projecting and reinforcing one's authority when that authority is not being challenged with violence (dancing is not violently challenging police authority). I think society on the whole would be better without the behaviors exhibited by the police--questions of "justification" or "legality" aside.

Further, as far as the evidence this video provides, the police are alleging a law pertaining to protesting is in violation, then purposefully interpreting 'dancing' as a protest. This interpretation is questionable in its own right, but even so, I don't think the state has reasonable interest in regulating dancing at monuments. This is definitely an overreach of government authority, one that I'm not going to support. Individual liberty over state interest is what I'm advocating here.

Being a "douche" is not in and of itself a crime and I don't want to live in a society where merely being labeled by a pejorative is justification for state sponsored oppression.

The police, as indicated by their willingness to give a warning in the first place, seem as though they were not committed to arrest and physical force. But if this is the case, why did they not simply escort the people off the property?

That guy - 2011-06-06

spikestoyiu, you didn't warn them fast enough, and now we got a legal briefing.

sosage - 2011-05-31

This remake of Footloose sucks

Jack Dalton - 2011-05-31

Certain types of expression are probably prohibited in a space like the Jefferson memorial (like staging a demonstration). It isn't a a police state, and it is not fascism-- it's just how things are. When a police officer has lawful authority to arrest you-- and you are the type of idiot that resists-- that cop can use reasonable force to restrain you (i.e. a chokeslam or double arm ddt).

futurebot - 2011-05-31

"t isn't a a police state, and it is not fascism-- it's just how things are."

lol

CharlesSmith - 2011-05-31

Seriously, the fact that you could post that without realizing how it makes you look doesn't speak well to your intelligence.

Jack Dalton - 2011-05-31

It's a public space that is generally not used for demonstrations-- for example, the Westboro Baptist Church probably could not just decide one day to stage a protest in the Jefferson Memorial. However, I'm assuming that they were staging something stupid before the video started, which lead to the cop's warning. Also, welcome back, futurebot! #LOL #FUTUREBOT #Footloose #poe-news

Jack Dalton - 2011-05-31

Charles, you are more than welcome to infer that this is some Orwellian plot to take away your right to dance. If that's the case, perhaps Footloose has proven prophetic and our only hope is Kevin Bacon.

futurebot - 2011-05-31

"I'm assuming that they were staging something stupid before the video started, which lead to the cop's warning."

lol

Meatsack Jones - 2011-05-31

Yup, that is showing Jefferson some respect.

How about, looking around, reading his words, and giving the man his dues. Nah, harass cops, do exactly what they told you not to, then whine about getting your butt kicked.

futurebot - 2011-05-31

Thomas Jefferson was all about obeying police orders

I mean it's right there in the Bible

spikestoyiu - 2011-05-31

That was more of a suplex than a bodyslam, and a pretty good one, at that.

futurebot - 2011-05-31

that was nothing like a suplex you moron

Cena will back me up here if he'll get off his high horse for a minute

Oktay - 2011-05-31

They are gonna do it again on Saturday:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSKqOnOLCEs

spikestoyiu - 2011-05-31

Only if they can drag themselves from their hospital beds after such a vicious beating.

memedumpster - 2011-05-31

Cops are the footsoldiers of big government, Google Ron Paul.

Toenails - 2011-05-31

I'm going to give my opinion on who's wrong and who's right based on a video clip provided by one side of the conflict.

That said, the protesters seem pretty obnoxious, but at least they totally understand the concept of non-violent resistance.

What the fuck are they protesting?
