People put way too much stock into getting a degree from an ivy league or similar "elite" university. As far as I can tell the best thing about these expensive schools is the connections you make while there. Ok and maybe the huge resources available at MIT.
I went to the University of Aberdeen in Scotland for a while and it was average in almost every respect. However during my education there it was ranked second in the UK for studying Law by a number of different sources.
If I had gotten a Law degree there, during that time, I doubt anyone over here in the US would give a flying fuck simply because it didn't come from one of the big names.
Also Bush Jr graduated from Yale..... so yeah.

Jack Dalton - 2011-06-16 I agree completely--in fact, I would go as far to say that the actual education in "elite" schools is inferior in a lot of respects. At the most "elite schools", a professor's research reputation is valued way more than a commitment to educating undergrads. But, really, education is what you make of it-- if you dick around and play Halo in school, regardless of where you go, there is no difference in the education you'll receive.
The best value in going to an elite school is, as you point out, the networking opportunities-- if you've ever worked or gone to a prestigious university, it is a totally different world.
