This has nothing to do with "hatred" of women.

When it comes down to it at it's core is nothing more than an exceptionally perverted take on the old "damsel in distress" trope that we've seen countless times in movies and games.

The fact that you see a woman restrained with her tits hanging out has absolutely no correlation to "hatred" at all. Its perverted, however most of the situations involving these helpless women involve a lot of white knighting comments by the main character.

I truly cannot fathom what the big problem with this kind of subject matter is, not only is it wholly unoriginal, having been done countless times before in comic books and films and even by its own predecessor, it is presented in such a ridiculous context that it is more or less impossible to take seriously. Does the video gaming world really want to be taken this seriously? Gripes about gameplay (and the wall tits...i cant really say anything about that) aside, I for one am totally baffled.

I agree, some reviewers seem to be using DNF to criticize any gameplay mechanic thats in it that they dont like cus its not in all the contemporary AAA shooters they're playing...
Think about Half Life 2, arguably on of the best games ever made and it has lots of "boring" platforming and physics puzzles, but its good cus valve nailed pacing and atmosphere and made it intuitive

Same here. The "humor" in this things is just awful awful offensive garbage and most the game elements look bad, but much of the level design looked quite interesting to me compared to the vast majority of modern shooters. That alone doesn't make me want to play this game, of course, but I have to give credit to at least that aspect.

Sorry, does it need to be explained why platform jumping in FPS games is a bad idea? Isn't the fact that you can't really look at the ground in front of you an obvious defect? Reviews and gamers criticized that aspect of Metroid Prime when it came out 10 years ago, and that was actually designed as a platformer. There's a good reason the only shooters still using it are third-person based. The fact that a defect is in a good game, like HL1, doesn't make it not a defect.

Well, that's true they may very well decide to do that. But, I get the feeling that DNF was more Gearbox trying to put something on their resume. Basically they can say "hey, we were given this piece of shit and told to try and salvage it into something at least moderately profitable" and now they can say they did what they could with it. I doubt, however, that they want to make a career out of the Nukem franchise, profitable or not. As I understand it, the "read between the lines" from Randy Pitchford was that this was basically to make some money and earn a little cred so they can move on to projects they'd rather be doing, one of them being Borderlands 2.

For my two cents, Gearbox basically shat in the punchbowl by rushing the game and cutting it to peices.
There was supposed to be a large chunk of the single player campaign left, where Duke was supposed to met up with his female (yes, FEMALE! Blow me, Shanghai Tippytap) sidekick Bombshell and go to space to blow up the Alien homeworld, return to earth, go on the talkshow again and THEN announce that he would run for president. Granted we dont know anything about how good that stuff would have been, because 3D Realms basically handed Gearbox all the disjointed bits of DNF crap they had, finished or unfinished, broken or balanced.
As it stands now, if you are not playing DNF's multiplayer you're doing it wrong.

The other guy is tolerable, but the co-dude is pretty annoying. I especially like Eddie Deezen-nerd going "Dude, you completed Duke Nukem Forever!" 'Cause, you know, he really sounds like someone who can dump on someone for having played a bad video game.

Giant Bomb is probably the most entertaining game site I know right now. For those with the patience, their endurance runs are fucking hilarious.

I liked their reviews of Microsoft's Game Room on Xbox 360. You got to watch failure unfold over months as they kept releasing dozens of shitty Intellivision games because nobody else would license their games for it and then Krome goes out of business and the service collapses.

I liked Game Room and wanted it to succeed but it was still pretty epic.

Also I remember a women's studies professor speaking at one of my college psych classes (around 9 years ago) and her presentation of how horrible men are (and how victimized women are) included a lot of clips of Duke Nukem (3D) giving money to and shooting strippers.

The look of utter rage on her face when most of the auditorium erupted into laughter.
