I simply ADORE the premise, that everybody on a university campus is automatically a liberal and a hypocrite. And these guys clearly met at a den of conservative thought.....oh.

FABIO - 2011-06-30

Their idea of "exposing liberal hypocrisy" is having people call them hateful bigots for wanting to outlaw gay marriage.

You cannot reason with reactionaries. All you can do is undermine them and make them look foolish.

hammsangwich - 2011-06-30

Wow, such a simple minded premise. Freedom of speech does not guarantee you a radio show. So these people want to sign a petition to get Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh off the air, so what? That isn't limiting their freedom of speech, they can go out in the street and spew their bullshit all day.

MrBuddy - 2011-07-01

It's not just a violation of Freedom of Speech but also of Press and ideal of having opposing views. It's sadly ironic to me that people who tell me they would defend the freedom of speech with their lives are also the people who'd cheer if Fox News was taken off the air.

It's easy to forget that there's a difference between Democrats and Progressives. Democrats are a group of politicians, Progressives are a large population of sincere people with similar ideals. Politicians will deceive, slander, break the law and try to use mind-control psychology on voters to stay in power, with ideas as much lower priority. I know you've seen members of both parties do it. But because of the Democrat = Progressive confusion I've seen atheist supporting Muslims, peace activists supporting killings and war and civil rights supporters saying African-American leaders should be "sent back to the fields" and married women candidates shouldn't hold office because they won't be good mothers.

Freedom of speech protects the speaker from state censorship, not other citizens. Just so we're clear. Your teachers were not impeding you of enjoying freedom of speech rights when they tell you to be quiet and stop disrupting the class.

Chalkdust - 2011-07-01

MrBuddy's a moron and should shut up

OH NO I'M VIOLATING HIS FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS

dek863 - 2011-06-30

What big news...voters are uninformed. What a shock. 5 for idiocy.

SolRo - 2011-06-30

I don't have to hate freedom to hate the KKK, or glen beck, or conservatives.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-06-30

Conservatives have a public hatred and private envy of people like Michael Moore. They will loudly denounce them while simultaneously trying to validate themselves through what they perceive to be their enemies' means. As a result, you get bullshit like this.

Creationists have the exact same relationship with science.

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2011-06-30

Personally, I'd say the shit that Limbaugh and Beck spew is on par with the "yelling fire in a crowded theater" scenario. They are inciting panic in a largely undereducated, anxious den of lemmings.

It's the same thing.

"Obama is like hitler! He wants to socialize EVERYTHING!"

*everybody runs and screams for no reason, simply out of fear*

StanleyPain - 2011-06-30

Interestingly, the term "yelling fire in a crowded theater" came from a ruling by Oliver Wendel Holmes judging that distributing flyers telling people to resist the draft during WWI actually qualified as treason. Holmes compared this exercise of free speech with "dangerous speech" that serves no purpose. The US Supreme Court jailed someone for 6 months for being anti-war (of course, the fact he was Jewish probably didn't help) Not really a ruling that people should rely on as a litmus test for acceptable speech.

Bort - 2011-07-01

These folks should probably have asked more questions about what the ban entails: should Beck be prevented from broadcasting under any sort of "news" label, seeing as he makes no effort to be factual.

Oh well, as we all know, Glenn Beck raped and murdered a nine-year-old girl in 1990. There used to be a web site about it and everything.

spikestoyiu - 2011-07-01

I'm sure that, if they had, they wouldn't have made it past the editing stage.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2011-07-01

I would certainly sign a petition to give Glen Beck throat cancer.

memedumpster - 2011-07-01

I signed a petition once to try and force Rush Lardass from selling Gitmo shirts and immediately felt bad about it. That was some time ago though and I would have no problem signing his labor camp incarceration warrant today.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-07-07

I wonder what kind of crazy nutjob newsletter they sent to all the people that signed.
