For some reason I prefer the older Fry. He's more together (some of the early interviews with him really show his insecurities) and it's kinda weird when a young guy is going on about classical culture the way Stevie does.
This is one of the examples of why the show was so good. A joke like this works fantastically when spoken aloud and is exactly the feeling you get from some of Bertie's narration in the books. Wodehouse was a comedic genius in creating the characters and Fry and Laurie are geniuses for getting the characters absolutely perfect.
