Maybe I'm insensitive or old fashioned or something, but...

Honestly, on this Earth, with people literally dying for want of worth of rice, with people rising up in the streets in front of the guns of oppressors, people being made to wear veils over their faces and being stoned to death for made up crimes....

...honestly the biggest problem in some people's lives is getting made fun of on the Internet.

Seriously. Shut up. There are people with real problems.

This unlikable whore definitely isn't helping things.

kwash - 2011-08-07

Damn. This was not here when I posted, but I'm glad I'm not the only person who had this thought.

Xenocide - 2011-08-07

This girl seems to be the type of person who's convinced no one on Earth has real problems except her.

Are the bullies the good guys in this movie?

Hooker - 2011-08-07

You're not old-fashioned or insensitive, just stupid. The biggest problems are not the only problems.

bopeton - 2011-08-07

Don't you try to cyberbully me! I'm going to tell my mom, and my teacher, and Oprah!

You'll be sorry, just you wait!

IrishWhiskey - 2011-08-07

The problem with this film isn't that it ignores genocide and famine in favor of bullying. It's that it trivializes actual bullying by acting like typical mean-spirited high school gossip is as bad as it gets. Any kid would be lucky to suffer through as little verbal abuse as the girl is 'Cyberbully' does.

thebaronsdoctor - 2011-08-07

Not to mention the fact that it buys into the whole scare tactic of holding the internet itself responsible for this sort of thing. It's the idea of scaring parents by blaming that got dang newfangled technology rather than actually looking at the problem and understanding it as an extension of regular bullying.

It's blaming the medium rather than the people responsible for this.

That and the main character is an unlikable douche who trivializes actual discrimination her gay classmate faces in order to focus on her own first world problems

bopeton - 2011-08-07

Not to mention it's just another one of those sensationalistic bullshit problems where nothing real ever comes of it except for eight or nine vocal white families.

Do I really, truly care if ten white kids died because they couldn't handle getting made fun of on the Internet? I'm sorry, but I just really, truly in my heart don't care.

It's just not a big enough problem to get worked up over. It's truly not important enough to get its own ridiculous-sounding made-up word for middle aged people to obsess over.

This is more obnoxious than the "Choking game", dungeons and dragons scares from the 80's, and "devil music" combined.

Rosencrantz - 2011-08-07

This might be stretching the meaning of what you‘re getting at, but The Human Condition by Hannah Arendt has got some interesting ideas about living for mere survival and consumption vs. civilized life.

CornOnTheCabre - 2011-08-07

Cyberbullies do not kill people. This is a totally absurd fallacy that is being more and more disseminated as the anti-bullying movement gains traction. Suicide is an act of personal agency, by definition.

If you are positing that another human being is capable of taking another person's life by humiliating them into suicide, you are admitting that human beings have absolutely no free will and can be operated like a puppet by a few novice insults or empty threats.

The other (while still depressing, at least approachable) option is that some people have horrible, horrible shit going on in their lives and their psyches which cannot be resolved with our society's failing social programs (which are about to become a whole lot failingier!) We blame the lone, anti-social bully for the same reason Americans blame the Muslim or the methhead: it's easier than actually solving the problem, and we have learned from the best when it comes to denying responsibility.

hichief - 2011-08-08

One person's problems do not end when anothers begins. Still, horrible show.

Syd Midnight - 2011-08-09

Jabberjaw, the shark in the eponymous Hanna Barberra cartoon, is called "Tutubarão" in Brazil.

rainbowcemetery - 2011-08-07

everything for "you smell"

kwash - 2011-08-07

Wait.

This is a fucking TV SHOW?!

I know this is beating a dead horse, but at least 15,000 people starved to death today, and this is what passes for a fucking problem in America.

Quad9Damage - 2011-08-07

TV movie.

delicatessen - 2011-08-07

2 gay 2 live

themilkshark - 2011-08-07

I heard it has an effect on the immune system

Xenocide - 2011-08-07

AND NOW A PUBLIC SERVICE MESSAGE FROM ABC FAMILY:

"Hi, I'm Courtney Stodden. Every year over two skinny attractive privileged blond girls are bullied nationwide. That's equal to the value of seventy-one inner city black girls, nineteen gays (musical variety) or six thousand Muslims. That's why I've started the Courtney Stodden Knock Off All That Dang Bullying Foundation.

The CSKOATDBF is dedicated to protecting our nation's most fortunate from bullying. Please give generously, because without your support, there's no telling how many blond girls might be needlessly bullied, while weird foreign kids and debate club nerds get off scot-free. Thank you."

MacTerr - 2011-08-07

These are for you. One is for the acronym, the others for "musical variety".

Riskbreaker - 2011-08-07

How about, i don't know, ignoring that people?

bopeton - 2011-08-07

Kids don't learn this anymore. They learn that getting your feelings hurt is tantamount to assault and that the world is a safe and warm place where nobody will hurt or try to take advantage of you.

So live with mommy until you're 25 and never leave your plastic suburb and spend your entire adult life in therapy.

That's just how people were meant to live!

kingarthur - 2011-08-07

Living with mom til you're 25 or older can be a symptom of problems much worse than cyber-bullying. I don't think anyone does that because their feelings get hurt.

bopeton - 2011-08-07

Everything I listed is a symptom of the same thing:

being a pussy.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-08-07

Living with your mom until your 25 can also be a symptom of the economy being ruined by the republican party.

bopeton - 2011-08-07

Well in the past two or three years, that's an okay excuse, but the 20-somethings-living-with-mom trend predates George Bush. The average age people move out has been rising steadily since WWII and is starting to get ridiculous (in my opinion).

We also have Facebook "helicopter" moms, governing lives from afar during college and the like. Don't get me wrong, moms have always tried to govern lives from afar but they're doing it now like never before.

Children grow up in padded rooms and never learn the skills to face adulthood.

kingarthur - 2011-08-08

Okay, so mental health issues, life-altering disease, the state of the economy, natural disasters, poverty in the extreme: these can all be summed up by saying "you're just a pussy".

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2011-08-07

Prince song title?

citrusmirakel - 2011-08-07

Nothing Compares 2 U, Slut.

garcet71283 - 2011-08-07

The internet is on computers/electronics.

Computers/electronics have off switches.

End of movie.

(also, just maintain internet anonymity...it isn't that hard if you just stay off facebook/myspace/twitter...)

exar_kun - 2011-08-07

Honestly, best tags ever.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-08-07

Looking at the history book on her desk made me feel depressed for some reason.

delicatessen - 2011-08-07

Europeans used the internet to taunt native americans into genocide

White Trash Party - 2011-08-08

Everything for the gay line which makes it impossible to feel any sympathy for the chick.

Dr Dim - 2011-08-08

Bullying can be a real problem but posting mean stuff on Facebook seems like the least significant part of it.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-08-08

You know, I sat behind this bitch in Algebra, she smelled SO bad!

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2011-08-08
